More ON cord dresses & ? about drop waists

I posted a couple of weeks ago about the cord dresses at ON:

I just saw that they had a new version for the fall that features a drop waist:

I wasn't tempted by the first style since I already have the one from last year and I saw no need to duplicate. The new one is tempting but I am unsure if the drop waist would be very flattering. Does anyone wear drop waist dresses? Does it flatter a particular body type best? My local store did not have them in yet & I'll be waiting until then to try it on since I am not planning to make any GAP/BR/ON orders in the near future.

Also, I did order (and return) the cowl neck tunic dress I mentioned in the same post:

The material was VERY thin and clingy. The cowl neck is very flattering but I didn't like the gathered arms all that much. There is also not nearly enough material on the bottom to get that a-line look featured in the online shot. . I tried both the regular & petite but it just didn't work. It's also VERY short - definitely mid-thigh.

I'm an hourglass and I've never found a drop waist that looks good on me. But I'm not sure about other body types.

I'm also an hourglass, and I wear drop waists a lot. I think it's all about personal preference, though, and adjusting your eye. I am tempted by those Shana- because I have the one from last year, too.

I haven't had the best of luck with this style and I'm a rectangle w/inverted triangle tendencies. I think it would work if it was straight and didn't have the drawstring--that way you could wear a low slung belt to rein it in. It's definitely something you're just going to have to try.

In case it's helpful, I tried one of the original style cord dresses but I returned it. The green color was very different than on the website (more brown and muted in real life) and the sleeves run small so I had to unbutton it or it was way too tight. A bigger size would have been too large everywhere else.

I like the drop waist...never tried it personally, though!

I *think* the general advice is that drop-waist styles tend to look best on inverted triangles and rectangles. This dress also has those pockets, adding some additional bulk at the hips. But it's very cute, and you won't know until you try it on! Personally, I like drop-waisted shirts and dresses, but I know they're not everyone's fave (this dress might actually tempt me if I weren't on a shopping ban).
