More Frames to help me choose from

Hello there YLF members. I am writing in to share some frames for glasses (which I also did in December of last year and subsequently never circled back to make my choice due to covid shutdown). Today I went back to a local shop and tried on some other really lovely frames. These are reading glasses only. I have narrowed my choices down to four pairs. One pair is blue and dark blue with an interesting shape; another pair looks black and yellow in the photos but is actually purple and yellow; a third pair is turquoise with a funky little add on at the top; and a fourth pair is tortoiseshell on top and the arms with colourful stripes around the bottom and sides of the actual lens. Thoughts on how they fit/flatter/don’t flatter? All opinions welcome. Clerk allowed me to go into a hallway and take pics w no mask. Yay!

I like the color of #1 on you but the frames look too big for you. All these frames look too big. The size and shape of #8 look the best of these.

Hmm..I’m thinking #6 has the best shape and proportions on you. I love the colour combination in #1, but agree it might be too wide. #8 on the other hand looks too deep to me. Hopefully Angie will weigh in.

For me, reading glasses are completely different from regular glasses, since you’re not wearing them all the time. So my reading glasses are sometimes weird, because why not? Anyway, the pair I like best is 5/7.

I agree they are all too big visually, but the important question is whether they are too big functionally. That is, will they stay on your face in day-to-day life? Some acetate frames have a little stretch in them, so they ought to be comfortably snug to start. If the seller tries to tell you they can “shape” a pair of too-large frames to fit, I’d gently encourage you to take your business elsewhere.
If you have worn glasses before, you already know this and don’t need me repeating it, but just in case……
The size of the frames is printed on the inside of the right arm. If you already own glasses that fit you well you can choose new frames with a similar size. If you don’t know your size, ask to see a selection that has a smaller lens width (the first of the three numbers) than the ones you tried here and see if they fit your face more securely. It doesn’t matter for these purposes if you like the shape or color, just try some smaller frames to judge how they feel on your face and behind the ears.
As for shape and color, I lean toward the purple ones and the multi-color on the bottom ones. But all are nice IMO.

Ryce - I had no idea about size of frames being written on the right arm - that’s a wonderful trick to know about and would have been a great starting place. I have had my old and only other reading glasses for ten years! And the hint about the acetate frames is also new to me. Jaileen - I am with you - I am attracted to a more dramatic lens for reading glasses. Thank you all for taking the time to look and reply.

The last pair - yellow with dark purple ( almost black ) is great shape. Flattering, unusual, funky - I like it a lot.
I usually go for the most colorful and complementary for the reading glasses ( for that reason the first pair is a bit too intense in color - but fun shape ). I like the rest of the options - would buy the green-turquoise for myself if I could .

#2 and #3 are the best shape, and a gorgeous colour! #8 is a good shape too. Just a little too big all round. Almost

My favorites are 2/3/6. The beautiful teal shade brightens everything, and the cat-eye shape (narrower at the bottom) seems less overwhelming.

I think 2/3/6 are the best. The shape is nice, albeit a bit big. But the color looks very pretty on you. I agree with Grace that it brightens your appearance.

Thank you all! This is very helpful food for thought. I appreciate the opinions, thoughts about colour, size and shape and honest feedback in general. I wasn’t wearing any makeup for the photos which probably also impacts the overall impression. It might have been better to put some on ahead of time.

I am with J’Aileen, I like 5/7. Disclaimer: rather similar to my own pair.
The striped part around the lens is so pretty and I love tortoiseshell also.
I remember the other post. I think these are all better and an interesting change from your current favourites.

Hey there! I admit that I got caught up in a bit of analysis paralysis. I went back, tried them on in person again, and decided on the dark purple/yellow pair. I think my selfies were not doing any of them justice. It was a tough choice doe me and you helped a lot. Thank you everyone for your warm feedback and thoughtfulness. When they come in, I will try to take a more flattering picture. They will be fun to wear and will hold a much needed prescription for reading. April - thanks for your curiosity.
