More cracked white Fryes - YouLookFab Forum

Ok, so Diana has me all kerfluffled over the cracked white finish that Frye does - even if it wears quickly, I love it! The Veronicas she posted seem like they won't work for my foot shape, but the Melissa reviews speak of a narrow foot bed and ankle and also a narrower shaft. Plus, they be on sale.

My questions:

- My heeled Fryes are very comfy - do those of you with flat Fryes feel they are comfy enough to try? I have about 3 pairs of flat sandals I can wear before they start hurting.

- I tried out some mid-calf white engineer boots a while back and didn't like how it looked on my leg. Still tickled by the idea, though. I think this height will work much better... but is it too "sexy cowgirl" if I try to wear them with shorts?

To me, white boots like this just scream drum majorette or baton twirler especially if worn with bare legs, no matter how cool the finish (love it--reminds me of eggshells). I just can't see past that...I'm sure others will have more encouraging words :).

My lowest Fryes are a little more substantial heel than this, but they are ultra comfy -- more so than my high-heeled Fryes. I think those are fab. I think you should try them! It's Zappos, if they don't work out, nothing lost.

Hmm, so the reason I was specifically looking at the shorter ones was that the taller ones (like these, and the tall veronicas) are A LOT OF WHITE and I knew I would have trouble bookending them. Would you be wearing these specifically with bare legs or also over pants? Personally, I can't do white boots (or even very light ones) over pants because almost all of my pants are dark and it makes the boots appear very white and stark. I feel that, if you were to only wear w/ bare legs, you'd be limited to shorts and shorter skirts because of the shaft height. Are you OK with that?

Diana, I would wear with both shorts and pants. I have no problem with high contrast on my legs at this shaft height for some reason; it only bothers me low on the calf... maybe because my shins are fairly long for my height?

It is a lot of white, but I have several white jackets and shirts to bookend. I've really loved my dalmatian booties for under jeans.

ETA: not buying from Zappos, just using the site because they have the best pics. I'd be getting about 1/2 off, but return shipping would be on me - around $10.

Ah, if you are wearing with pants, then they become much more versatile! And I think you wear a lot more white than I do, so bookending would likely not be such a problem for you. I say go for it, then! (Besides, I really want someone to have something in this cool finish....)

I can totally see you in these, Rae. They seem very you, since, as you say, you wear a lot of white. My Frye Veronicas are SUPER comfie and low-heeled. But then again, I am on Team Flats.

I'm perfectly comfortable in my Frye Veronicas and Cindy Slouch boots (the latter being the more flat of the two) for hours on end.

I think not necessarily only would they bring to mind a drum majorette--maybe it's because I've been watching Mad Men, but there's a cool mod go-go vibe to them. I wonder how the cracked surface would wear...I have a red leather bag that has some cracking on the handle and it's not very visible but the brown leather peeking through underneath bugs me, and that's a tiny spot. They are cool boots, though. I don't think the little bit more or less in height would make such a huge difference (engineer boots vs. these). We're talking about a few inches at most.

Mochi, are you arguing for or against? Compared to the engineer boots I disliked on my legs, these are 7-8 inches taller. I see the go-go vibe, too, and I kinda like it.

At the price, if they fit well, I suppose I could dye them whatever color I want in the event that the white looks silly.

I like 'em! Frye boots are really well-made, too. You could be our cracked leather guinea pig.

Oh, just for fun, rae...I suddenly remembered this white and embellished boot I had admired when it first came out. The heel and price are both way too high for me, but it's gorgeous! (ETA though probably not really you)

I found these very comfy - although too wide in the calf. I liked the look, but preferred the shorter version that Diana posted.

Interesting, Angie, most reviews say this calf is very narrow, which was one thing that attracted me. Although my calf has got to be larger than yours, this worries me.

The shorter ones are probably safer, but I think they would be too wide in the footbed based on the pictures.

The style has a 15 inch calf circumference. My calves are all of 13.5 inches wide.

Thanks, Angie! I had seen measurements range from 13.5 to 16 on one Ebay listing. My calves are 14" around - is a little bit of gap ok for this style? I would try on, but Nordies says there are none remotely near me.

The gap really depends on how the shaft height falls on the leg. By all means try them - you never know!

Can't wait to see 'em on Rae! I love all my Fryes, both low- and high-heeled versions (though I find the under-3" ones more comfortable).
