more boot questions.... skinnies with short boots?

I'm trying to narrow down what to buy this fall. It's looking like I can manage to get a few pairs by Christmas. But since I'm building my fall/winter shoe collection almost from scratch, I really want to get versatile ones if possible.

Is is possible to find boots/booties that work with boot cuts, skinnies, and skirts/dresses? Or is it like knee high boots that only work with either skirts OR skinnies? Will I end up needing boots for boot cuts, different ones for skinnies, and still different ones for skirts?

What about a mid-calf boot like this one:

Would that work with skinnies tucked in? I know it would work with bootcuts. What about skirts? Or is it just an awkward height?

I have knee high boots for skinnies in black and cognac, so maybe I should stick with those and just get short boots.

I like the Type Z, but don't know your style. Both would work ON ME with skinnies & dresses, but I don't know what your body type is.

PS: I checked your outfits and I think you could definitely pull any of the looks you name off.

Knee high boots can be worn with both dresses and skinnies. Most of the time, the problem is fit. If the boots fit your calves well with dresses, they will be too tight to wear over jeans, or alternatively, if they look ok with skinnies, when worn with dresses, there will be noticeable gap, which is not flattering. The trick is finding the right type of boots. Particularly two types of boots lend themselves well to being worn with boots and skinnies: Slouchy boots and adjustable lace-up boots.

I couldn't find a picture of her wearing her docs with skirts but I am sure she approves.

I hope to get a pair of lace-up boots at some point, maybe even Docs. Thanks for the info about knee high boots.

Mary and Airin, thanks! I'm thinking if it's cold enough for boots at all, I'd rather wear knee high boots with skirts. So I will wear low boots with jeans most of the time. I'm glad to know those would work with either type.

It's ok! LOL I actually knew the info you posted, but someone else might not have. It was a good reminder for all of us. I'm having to buy more knee high boots because now that my calves are thinner, my boots work with skinnies and look silly with skirts.

Yes! Part of it will depend on the hem opening/length of your skinnies; if the hem is very narrow you can tuck into the boots, but not wear the boots under; if the hem is wider you may be able to tuck but likely have to wear over the boots. So you'll want to keep in mind the width of the top of the boot and how it will play with your skinnies. Under bootcuts that shouldn't matter As for skirts/dresses you may have to experiment a bit; when you're shorter you have to be more mindful about where short boots hit on your leg and the length of your skirt.
