I have a loose goal this year of limiting my clothing/fashion wardrobe purchases to four a month (I'm excluding basics like underwear, gear, and PJ's, and I'm also excluding vacation purchases but trying to keep them within reason).

February was a mostly a success. I ended up with five new purchases, plus an item given to me by a friend (a new with tags item -- more on that later).

My additions were:

- the blue printed Preen skirt
- the star print white blouse
- the AFRM reptile print midi skirt
- the blue camo print cashmere beanie
- a black corset/laceup-side detail shirt
- a teal dolman sleeve turtleneck tunic/dress/top (the gift)

I've already worn the blue skirt, white top, and beanie. Those were all full-price items, and it was pretty much love at first sight with all of them. I expect the reptile print skirt to get lots of wear in the warmer months, but it's also very wearable now with tights and boots. The skirt purchases were within a plan, because I knew I wanted some new skirts that would work for casual summer wear. The white star top is also part of a plan, as I've had a goal of working more light/white into my wardrobe.

The beanie was a moment of weakness, but I really like it and wear it.

The black top was also a moment of weakness, and on sale. I haven't worn it yet, and I think it is actually a final-sale item -- it was part of a sort of clearinghouse sale (a bunch of local boutiques had a big winter clearance event and I do like the top and was happy to spend a little with a small, locally-owned business). In retrospect, I have enough black tops and I really could have left it behind, but the lace-up sides and the encouragement of some enthusiastic SA's and fellow shoppers nudged me into the purchase. I don't think it will become a workhorse, but I do like it and expect to wear it from time to time. It may be a bit trendy, but it's pretty true to my style regardless of trend, as I like a bit of edge added by the corset-ish detail, the shaped but not body con cut, and of course, black.

The teal tunic is from a friend who got it but ended up not liking the color on herself. The pros: it's a great color for me; the turtleneck fits me very nicely and I barely have any turtlenecks anymore; it is ultra soft and comfortable. The cons: it's a tunic, or a dress -- either way, the style is not the best on my shape -- I think this style is better on someone with a straighter or more IT-ish shape. In this photo, I've actually bloused it up to see how it works as a sweater. My friend thought it worked on me either way, but I know that I'm highly unlikely to wear it full-length with leggings -- tunics just are not a great look on me. I'm also not totally sure about the voluminous dolman sleeve. I think the style can work on me, especially if I add a long pendant to create some vertical line to the look. What I'm wondering is whether I should cut it off into a hip-length top. The fabric is a jersey that will be just fine if cut -- it could be hemmed or not. What do you think? Should I wear it as is? Cut it off? Pass it along?
