Moisturizing powder foundation?

Any recommendations on a loose or pressed powder mineral foundation that is moisturizing or hydrating. I like the ease of application of something like Bare Minerals original, but have dry skin in a very low humidity area. I’m looking for light coverage that is pretty natural looking. I’m pretty fair skinned.

I'm not sure any powder is going to be hydrating - is it? The whole point of powder is to absorb and mattify....

Why don't you try a CC cream? Elizabeth Arden's and Chanel's are both really nice.

Thanks lisap- I do use a creamy foundation on the rare occasions when I am getting dressed up, but I’m looking for the ease of a brush on powder for if I just want to look a little more polished when I’m out and about.

I bought some original bare minerals many years ago and really like the ease and speed, just hoping the technology has changed enough to be less drying. I figure if it exists, YLF will know.

I’m heading to the big city in a week and may take a wander through the Nordies makeup section, so I will look for the two you mention as well.

If you're interested in looking at something different, here's my recommendation. I found Lily Lolo natural BB cream is perfect for cold, sunny, arid elevations like Lake Tahoe and mountains. It's a hybrid between dry minerals and creamy foundation and performs nicely on fair skin. I dust some mineral powder over it for extra sun protection when casually outdoors. Hiking or skiing takes serious sunblock, of course.

You may want to consider a primer under your foundation to see if that helps. Bare minerals makes one called prime time.

Does the city you'll be visiting have a Sephora?

MakeupAlley.com is a very useful resource, both the ratings and the forums.

It sounds like we have very similar skin.

My material and method is sort of the opposite of what it sounds like you're looking for, but the effort and results might be viable for you:
- a BB or CC cream with sunscreen
- a makeup stick, tapped on with a full short brush

The foundation is very thick, and but goes on light and fast with the brush. It can be layered if and where you want more coverage.

I also don't think a powder is the way to go.

My skin is super dry during fall and winter and I use Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. It's very natural, adds extra moisture and is easy to apply. You don't even have to apply to your entire face....just where you need it. I don't ever use a proper foundation.....I hate a heavy, made up look. I want natural looking skin with a little boost.

You can mix the powder into your moisturiser and then apply, if you’re into the work. A little powder goes a long way.

I also use Bare Minerals on a dry sensitive skin... Actually, I find this powder to be more moisturizing than others such as Lancôme compressed dual finish or Dior pressed powder, so I usually reserve Bare Minerals for the colder winter months...
BUT there are other things you must consider:
1) The kabuki brush you are using for Bare Minerals. What are you using? a good brush makes a huge difference.
2) Have you tried using a base such as La Base of Lancôme? It really helps.

My experience too is that powder foundations are not as moisturizing. I like the idea of a tinted moisturizer.

Do you spray down your powder foundation with a hydration spray? I use Pommisst by Jane Iredale, and that seems to help.

I use Clinique almost powder makeup after I go to the gym (because I can’t be bothered re-applying my makeup). It goes on likes a powder and gives a light coverage. I have dry skin and don’t find it drying.

Laura Mercier Mineral powder (Loose, not pressed..... which is being discontinued) For more coverage, you can use a thin layer of IT Cosmetics CC cream underneath, for a flawless finish.

I love Shiseido Future Solution Loose Powder, it is creamy and just right, and comes in a gorgeous packaging~ Good Luck~

Mac Studio Fix is a great powder foundation, within 5 min or so it melds with your skin with a natural finish.

Just make sure you put on your moisturizer before and let it sink in a few minutes.

Thanks everyone for the tips and suggestions. I tried a couple of these on my big city visit - the Laura Mercier loose and and the Smashbox Halo. The Halo felt more moisturizing, but wasn't quite the right match to my skin. One challenge is the makeup artists at Nordies put everything on with a much heavier hand than I will IRL. I got a free sample of the Laura Mercier Tinted cream, which I will give a test run too.

I will try some of the other powder suggestions as I have a chance and really appreciate the YFL wisdom in pointing me down some paths. It may be that because the nature of powder is more drying, I may just have to get faster with the liquid if I want to hew to my "more polished" resolution.
