Mixed success at H&M - YouLookFab Forum

Last week I went to big flagship H&M store, with many goals in mind. I was looking for:

1. Blazers - looking to duplicate my navy knit one in other color (s) as well as for white cotton one I saw on the website ( and one some YLF posters)
2. A couple of various cute items I saw on their website
3. Coral clams I tried previously and then regretted not buying
4. Some woven summer tops made of natural materials
5. Cropped faded denim vest, similar to Ana's Madewell one

The first two goals were complete bust. The did not have the navy blazer in any of the other colors shown the website ( as Diana warned me might be the case). They did not have the white cotton one either. They had very few blazers in general, and none of them fitted into what I was looking for. The second goal went pretty bad as well: they either didn't have those items, or had them in the wrong sizes, or they fit horribly.

However, I got quite lucky with the last three. The coral clamdiggers were still there in my size, so I snapped them (photo #1). I found two beautiful blouses: the mint one (in #1) is pure silk, which is so rare for H&M; and the second one (in #2) is a cotton/silk blend, nice tunic length, in a subtle conversational print that included humming birds and dragon flies in addition to flowers. I didn't find any appropriate denim vests, but there was a denim jacket that satisfied all the requirements. It was even made of very thin material, that felt more like shirt fabric than jacket fabric, very similar to the Madewell one (#3). So I snapped it and chopped the sleeves off I am also curious to know if you prefer the longer or shorter length of the clamms on me.

Sorry about the other items, but these are all wonderful! Great score on that silk blouse. I prefer the clams at the longer length for leggy you.

Tanya, you got sensationally lucky with the items you took home! I love both blouses, and to me the clams look great at either length - you have the long legs to carry off longer clams, and the un-rolled length is still pretty high at the curve of your calf. I would probably feel they were verging on too long if they were 2-3" longer than they are.

Aw, too bad about the blazers but it looks like you scored anyway! I love all the items, especially the printed blouse. I like the longer length of the clams on you but both options look good.

And that is such a cool trick to chop the sleeves off a jacket to turn it into a vest! I'll have to remember that.

That aside, you did very well. The clams look fantastic on you. I like them at both lengths, really. And you are so clever with your new vest!

Hmm...I'm not sure what length I like the clamdiggers. I think either works. I might prefer the shorter one, but only slightly. The clams look great on you!

Thank you all very much! I am quite happy with my scores. I am just bummed out about the casual jackets, as I could really use one or two more for my summer work formula, but can't really afford to spend a lot of money on them.

Ana, you can certainly call me that Your vest was the inspiration for my little DIY project..

It is very unusual for me to be called "leggy", as I am really not - my legs are about 2" shorter than they should be for my height - I have the long torso/short legs body type. I am quite glad to appear leggy though, so thank you very much!

You never know what a place like H&M will have in store. I commend for keeping eyes open for great blouses that really work. Lovely print!
I like the longer length for clams and love that DIY vest.

Tanya either length for the clams work but given your height, I would probably go with the length in #1. The blouses are both stunning and so flattering on your long slender frame. Clever work with the denim jacket. It looks great.

The new blouse is gorgeous! Sometimes H&M yields incredible finds. I agree that if you see something you love and it's in your size, pounce! They rarely repeat items. Every time I go in, it's nearly a new store. (I may not be going often enough?)
