As a teenager I had an unusual “reversible “ summer skirt. It was green but had flowered moveable side panels. If you buttoned the side panels in front you had a flowered skirt with a green front pleat showing. Button panels behind and you had a solid green skirt with a flowered kick pleat showing in back.
It was such an awesome skirt. I lived in it until it went in the rag bag. I have never seen anything like it since. I miss it to this day.

Do you have a great memory of a piece of clothing you wish you never had to give up and would love to have it back in your closet now?

I miss my quilted pinafore gown with pink puff sleeve top for underneath. It came from the old I. Magnin’s department store. I was four. Lol. My cousin had the same in blue. I have been thinking about it this week. Lol!

There is a Australian brand called Boom Shankar that has some interesting skirts that are reversible and I think they have a removable pocket section too.

I had a knee length chocolate brown velvet single breasted coat in the 00's that I absolutely loved. Eventually I parted with it because it developed holes. But I miss it to this day. I would love to have the exact same coat today, either in brown or in another favourite colour (maroon, teal, dark green).

I had a blanket jacket from Eddie Bauer that I bought in the 1990s. I loved that jacket. It was warm and had great pockets for dog walking. The pattern on the jacket was called Navajo Sunset. Beautiful. Sometime in the early 2000s, I lost it during one of my moves. I just did a search on eBay for it. No luck.

oh yes, many....my 1st puffer-from my freshman year in college, it was grey and salmon pink,i don't think i've ever found anything else in that wonderful pink, but i'd jump on it if i did....a fabulous Dana Buchman silk twill suit with a belted jacket and knee lenght skirt from the around 1993, the fabric was incredible and it was one of those suits that really could be dressed up or down....a polka dot tulle skirt (i think it was from the Limited via Marshall's) from the early 90s, a pair of pants from high school that had a wrap waist...

I had a red velvet pea coat in my early twenties. I loved the juxtaposition of a lux fabric with a utilitarian cut. I wore it for years until the velvet nap began to flatten and fade at the elbows. I bought it on major sale at Filene's basement. It was my first designer piece.

Rachylou- I must of felt that same vibe in the air to have such fond memories come to the surface. Does your cousin share aesthetic today since they dressed you similarly as children?

Jussie- love the print on that skirt- but alas- I have bought many a reversible skirt- some good, some horrible- but none touched my heart like that one. Btw- when my daughter asked me to sew her a reversible skirt for a class trip- I tried technique. I was not successful so took it apart & made regular reversible. She wore that to the rag bag- lol

Brooklyn- keep looking girl- things repeat- you will get your coat and I, my skirt yet. Ya gotta believe! ( phrase borrowed from NY ball team soon after the skirt gave up the ghost)

Style Fan- what a terrific jacket. Sorry it got lost in a move. It’ s probably with my daughter’s Strawberry Shortcake kiddie swimming pool. In 35 years she still has not forgiven moving company for that. Will keep me eye out at consignment shops I visit. One will turn up.

Kkards- my goodness- sounds like you are missing quite a few old favorites. Looks like some stores are carrying “ close to salmon pink” so keep eyes moving! Good luck !

Such a fun question! I have had so many favorites that it is hard to pick one! One of my most memorable was for my 10th birthday I got a matching vinyl skirt and vest in pink and orange flowers that I wore with white go-go boots (yes it was the early 70's :)) Not a particularly classy outfit but I loved it and felt very stylish.

I had a great red lightweight waterproof utility jacket that was perfect for dog walking. I wore it for years and always felt fab in it. It also had very cute gingham lining, I don't know why but happy lining in a jacket is important to me!

I miss quite a lot if things I used to give away following the dictate that if you haven’t worn it for a year it should go,but I don’t do that any more if I like it I keep it!A British company called Whitestuff frequently does reversible skirts but if course I don’t know if they would deliver to you or indeed whether it would be worth it.

I once had the perfect safari dress : pretty sage green color, flowy, breathable and yet sturdy fabric, perfect cut for my shape, well designed pockets and unusual brass buttons.
Unfortunately I outgrew it before turning 18 years old. I'm still looking for an adult version of it, though!

I think I was in my late teens when my maiden aunt gave me one of her suits. It was a brown tweed with flecks of yellow, orange, and green. Very fitted pencil skirt and a short fitted jacket with a brown fur collar. Probably from the 50's or 60's, so vintage for sure. I wore it to church a couple of times. I left it behind when I left home at 20, and my mom must have donated it. I would love to have it in my closet, even if it isn't politically correct to own fur.

I had a silk western-style shirt by Lucky Brand about a decade ago that I wish I hadn’t given up — I lost weight and it became a little loose, but I could wear it now. It was burgundy tipped with coral piping.

I had a pair of wide leg jeans when I was in college in the 80s that I loved, and I would love to find a modern version.

Molly- sounds like it was a well loved piece- don't you just miss Filene's Basement. A YLF Friend recently pointed out that Filenes parent got taken over my Macys..it's not the same...:-(

Robin- were they the white boots that the dancers wore on shindig and hullaballoo ? There're baaaccckkk! lol I also have visions of Goldie Hawn (Laugh in)in my head. In the words of Bob Hope- Thanks for the memories.

Bijou- you must be thrilled that gingham is making a big comeback. Maybe you can get a lightweight gingham jacket with a solid red lining this time.

Cardiff- thanks for tip. How wise you are to have stopped giving treasures away. All of us will have a few more fun things to show at Katerina's Oldies Challenge in the future-right?!

Aurore- the dress sounds wonderful. I remember when safari look dresses and jackets were in. I wish they made them like that again too. Maybe if we wish hard enough, they will be back on trend soon!

RunCarla- weren't they the best!! They were so beautifully made and tailored and really showcased a woman's body. I wore a blazer from a suit of my mothers that sounded similar. Had to give it up when silk lining shredded and seams were beyond repair. Those fur collars really made the outfit though. LOL

Janet- There has to be places out there because I see people in nice western wear (and gorgeous boots) all the time (& I'm from upstate NY). maybe online, catalog or even better-set up a shopping trip with the YLF Friends from CO

This is a great thread. I am enjoying the reading and wished for pieces.
My long lost favorite was a hand me down from my aunt. (That woman had fabulous clothing and I received a few vintage hand me downs.) My aunt gave me a long leather cream colored trapeze coat. IT WAS AMAZING! My favorite way to wear it was open, so it could move freely as I walked. My aunt had worn it for many years before passing it along and I got another 12 years out of it.

I regret a beautiful midi tulip shape gray embroided denim skirt from 2006 I donated in 2014, what a mistake. That one stings.

But another one, along the lines of your green printed skirt, is for me a simple Gap classic fit high waist 1990 "Mom jeans" I had saved all my pennies to buy, because at the time it was THE "it" denim shape (as illustrated here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listin.....st_relevan). It was made of a thicker, lighter denim, a feel I miss nowadays. There was also a high-waist straight leg (still would qualify as a Mom's jeans by today's standards) I was rather fond of that made its way with me to Japan where it became the item of choice for the year I spent there (also making it on most pictures I took. It was the only time in my life I looked lanky). Sigh.

Alas, the western style shirts I see now are too blatantly “western” cowgirl looking (cotton and stitching/embroidery or plaid) , or if they’re silk they look like pajama tops. I’m not holding my breath.

Fun thread. My lost love was the first thing I ever bought myself. It was a bright YELLOW wrap skirt for summer in 1964. I felt so stylish in this happy skirt that made the most of my then-tiny waist. My mother hated it because it needed to be ironed, which I usually did myself.

I had an a-line, wool winter coat on a
deep berry purple. I wore it for years and even managed to replace it on eBay. But the size was slightly off the second time and I gave it up after a few more years. Now my fun winter coat is emerald green, but I miss the purple. It was my signature item.

A perfect pair of button-fly Levi 501s. Purchased around 1980, when that style was only made for men, and being smaller than typical man-sizes, I despaired of ever owning a pair. Stumbled on a single pair that fit in a random mall somewhere and wore them until they literally shredded.

I miss my brown suede skirt that I wore to death back in the 80s and early 90s.

When I was in college in the 70's, my grandma gave me the most luscious aqua green cashmere pullover that she probably had since the time I was a little girl. It had a fine cable pattern radiating from the neckline making a circular yoke. It was Perfect, a perfect fit and superb color.

Unfortunately I didn't know enough to preserve wool through summer and it got moth holes after a couple of years. Boohoo. I was heartbroken.

What a great thread! Love all the tales and memories here.
I had a moonlight mauve silk blouse (came with a coordinating white, green, mauve striped necktie) that I bought with money from my first high school job in summer 1977. '70s disco meets Annie Hall.
Wore it for all dates and going out nights until well into the '90s, when it was finally translucent from so many launderings.
The first of many sad farewells!

I had a purple faux fur coat I wore until I couldn't get it on anymore. I've spent most of my life looking for a replacement.
