Maxi or mid-calf coats are often not recommended for petite or shorter women because they can be overwhelming. When I was trying to pinpoint why long coats weren’t flattering on me (I’m of average height), I looked at photos of Miroslava Duma, who, at 5 ft, wears maxi lengths really well.
While she often defines the waist and wears heels, she also pulls off roomier styles. I wonder if the challenge of long coats is less about height and more about body type—here, being slim with narrow hips, average-to-long legs, and overall, well-proportioned.
Alternatively, maybe the trick is to go for an oversized belted look, rather than a style that aspires to be slim and sleek.
