Hi fabbers! It's been a while since I posted. Life has been bonkers, so I have not been able to participate as much as I would like... So, selfishly, I am here for handbag advice.

To start - I am NOT a handbag person. I don't carry them in winter (that's what pockets are for!), but given the lack of pocketed summer-appropriate toppers, I find myself needing something to carry my phone, key, and tiny card holder in the very rare chance I leave home...

I am thinking a small hobo-type bag, and recently looked at a couple by Rebecca Minkoff. I want a buttery-soft leather - not rigid like Coach or D&B. Even my old Kate Spade bag is too stiff for the softer feel I am going for. Hard to shop them without touching them, but being unvaccinated (still), online is really my only option. I know a few of you have Minkoff bags - do you like them and are they worth their price point?

I do like them and have had several over the years from backpacks and work totes to handbags and cross body bags . Yes , I believe they are worth the price, but will caution you that the larger handbags can be heavy . She uses a lot of metal hardware which adds to the weight . Lots of forum members have the backpacks and love them ; I didn’t love mine and ultimately sold it .

I do like my Minkoff bags and like the quality. I have a small crossbody bag and a backpack. The crossbody is a little too small for my purposes, but I liked the style so much that I make it work for the occasions I want to use it. The backpack has been a workhorse at times for me.

I wouldn't say that the Minkoff bags I've seen have buttery soft leather. It's a bit more substantial, and they are usually lined. They are certainly soft enough, and the backpack is soft enough to slouch as it should. I think she has had some that aren't lined, though, and might be softer.

My only RM bag experience was a mini backpack. I so wanted it to work out, but in the end passed it along to a niece. Loved the colour and pattern, but it was hard and stiff, and the side pouch zippers opened of their own volition - so not dependable. What you are considering looks different. Does the listing source reveal the weight of the bag?

I have a MAC in electric blue. It is buttery soft leather and great quality. I don't carry it often, but when I need a smaller bag that is able to go cross-body, it's the one I reach for.

I have a mid size RM black bag and as Lisa mentioned it is a little heavy. I don’t use it very often.

I have a couple and like them. I think they are less rigid/structured than Kate Spade, although the vibe is a little different also. Like FC I wouldn’t describe the leather as buttery but soft enough. I’m not sure I’d put them in the same class as Coach. (Coach is more expensive here.) But I do think they are worth the price. On par with KS and Michael Kors.

I have several and really like them, they have held up well. They are less refined and more edgy than, say, Kate Spade. They can also be found at deep sales at RM website or Nordstrom Rack.

Interesting about the weight; there's a larger RM hobo I was considering, but it has a bunch of hardware on it, so if weight is a factor, that eliminates it as a candidate....

Turns out, this one I posted about in OP has NO internal or top zippers, which is a deal breaker for me. Sigh. Oh well... Usually the RM straps and dangly bits are too maximal for me, but the butterscotch color of this one really caught my eye.

I'll continue the hunt!

Is weight a constraint for you? Before you reject bags because they’re too heavy for others, try carrying around a dummy one of that weight to see if/how it works for you.

A lightweight woven leather bag may have the droopiness you are looking for. Étienne Aigner has a small woven hobo, but I have not yet seen it in person.

OMG, I'm late here but I love them. In fact, they are pretty much my only bag. Partly because I like minimal hardware in silver, and partly because I like many of the styles, both structured and unstructured. They wear really well for the most part, although the finish on my nylon silver bag is not terribly durable -- understandably, I guess.

Sorry that one you looked at had no zipper. I wonder about a backpack, though. The nylon ones are incredibly light (even with the bits of hardwear) and could work with your casual style.

I LOVE my hobo -- but it is admittedly really large.

I have a couple of Minkoff bags, including the lightweight nylon version of the backpack, which I have used so much it’s almost dead, and I bought a replacement on deep discount.

I also have these two, which are several years old. I use the smaller crossbody a lot — it’s my go-to black crossbody (although I have been keeping an eye out for a simpler one that still holds as much as this one). The larger one has been in my holding zone. I still like it but haven’t been reaching for it much, as I have been in a backpack or crossbody mode for the last year. It is a little on the heavy side.

They’re well made and durable. I find the dangly bits too long for my taste, so I cut them off to be shorter.

May I suggest what LisaP called my BFF, at least when it comes to bags? Check out Aimee Kestenberg bags. Similar level of casual but refined, soft leather, and very functional. The Rack often has their styles at good prices.

I've been tempted by a few handbag models from this brand but never purchase them as overpriced for the quality and stitching - in particular on the bottom of the handbag.

Are you able to see them in person ?

Minaminu - no, I won't go out right now. I am still not vaccinated, and cases are up in my area 10% since June... Silly to be shopping for a bag, I guess...

Suz/Janet - yes! I remembered you both had a few of the RM bags! Glad to hear your experiences with them -- and I love the idea of a backpack, too. I will keep my eye out for one.
