Mini dresses for tall and curvy: yay or nay?

I bought this dress, which I usually wear with leggings. But it's summer, and it's hot. SO... are bare legs and a minidress okay on me?

I'm 30, 5'11" and curvy. I don't want to look inappropriate, but I do rather love a good bohemian styled minidress.

It's interesting tho... I'd be reaching for a mesh shopper, in terms of bag, so as not to spoil the look or make myself seem juvenile. I'd also stay away from the denim vest toppers.

rachylou, thank you And great thoughts!! I really hate denim vests, but I do like to knot a chambray shirt at the waist. Would chambray be too juvenile/young?

Hello! I think you look great too, definitely not inappropriate.

As far as the chambray top, I don't know what to say because I am guilty of dressing too juvenile myself, ha ha. But my gut reaction is that tying a chambray shirt wouldn't be too juvenile. I think that the hat helps keep the outfit more grown-up too.

Gigi, love your name Thank you for the feedback! I feel tying chambray shirts is very grown-up and womanly. But I never know, and I suppose it depends on what it's paired with: such as, the current reborn 1990s look with floral rayon dresses paired with chambray and denim, which makes me cringe.

In my 20s I dressed exclusively in very refined classic styles - khakis paired with collar-flipped-up button-up shirts and loafers, turtlenecks, wide-leg slacks, capris with ballet flats, and such. Looking back it never suited my personality, my body type, my age, or my taste in fashion.

So I do dress more young now. I don't feel exactly 30 (how does one feel at 30 anyway?). I also like the styles of the last 3-4 years have been more youthful in general.

I think this dress looks great on you and to my eye is a good length for your bare legs in summer. I just use caution with the bending and sitting with summer skirts this short, but feel fine walking around.

In terms of the shirt, I feel it might depend on whether it's short sleeved and cropped... which I think would be kiddie-camp look. Otherwise, I should think it would be good.

I used to dress extremely conservatively when I was younger also. I am now forty and am dressing much younger than I did at twenty, ha ha! I think we have to get it out of our system since we didn't do it the first time around. But thirty is certainly not too old to be wearing youthful styles, and there are lots of ways to style things so that they don't look like you're trying to be a teenager. The same item of clothing styled in different ways can create vastly different looks.
