So due to conflicting schedules I haven't been able to hike with the boy. But today via facebook he invited me to a happy hour. It's a group thing, and I can tell from the invite he invited others I know. But it's something, right?
It's next Thursday, the day after a hair appointment. What to wear? Thinking of recreating my nude suede boots, denim shorts and floral bomber outfit.

Great news Anna. I think a relationship that starts slow is more likely to last than the ones that seem to go from 0-60 in a day.

That could be true, too, what bj says. My bf #3 totally did that. He told me so. Arranged group outings to go out with me... and then haha, couldn't get rid of this one guy who then decided to be a forever tag-a-long. Hahaha!

Sounds good to me! You are still on his mind and in his circle. It is super easy to let conflicting schedules be an excuse if you want to conveniently "drift apart." I'm glad he is finding alternatives since hiking has been out!

I agree with Zap and Co. That was the line of my question really. He sounds to me like he is keen but shy.

Yeah I'd be getting a bit nutty with the ambguity and would probably ask him out (casually, but one-on-one and somewhat date-y - movie and drinks?) and try to gauge his interest from there. But then we all have different approaches and I can't claim I was any good at dating

What about the non visual cues Anna, is there great eye and body contact when you meet?

I'm too direct to play the long game with these matters (not sure if this is a quality or a flaw) if the cues are there and you have a moments privacy I would go in for a kiss, nothing ventured, nothing gained. *perhaps I'm just a hussy in disguise*

I've done that too and then attempted dating that person (who I still believe was into me and is now married, so not gay) only to find he was never going to be the one to initiate, which doesn't work for me.

I'm really gunshy when it comes to things like this. Once I'm secure I'm much more demonstrative. Five years of dating rejection in Seattle can do that to a person.

I think I get it Anna. Was in somewhat similar headspace before I met DH after being single pretty much all my 20s. The aforementioned experience probably didn't help. All I can suggest for getting over the hump is... Alcohol :$

I can understand feeling gunshy Anna, the course of action you choose to take has to be one you are comfortable with. Besides there are definite benefits when the long game involves hikes, dinner dates, movies and wine tasting.

I also think there are more rules and formality to dating in the US than in the in general.
