Mineral Makeup

I’ve finally tried mineral makeup and I love the stuff! It looks natural but covers the pink spots on my face pretty well, and I can hardly feel that I’m wearing it. But there’s a problem; the brand that I bought wipes off easily. I have a cold right now, so I’m constantly whipping my nose, and the make up comes right off under my nose. I bought L’OREAL Paris “Bare Naturale” from Wal-Mart. Does the more expensive stuff wipe off too?

Sarah, on a scale of 1-10 ease of use, with tinted moisturizer (just slap it on without regard) being a 2 or 3, how would you rate mineral make-up?

I have been intrigued by mineral make-up, but it seems like a pain the rump. I don't even use any brushes in my normal routine (liquid foundation and cream blush I use with my fingers). I'm afraid that spending any more than 3 minutes total on my make-up routine will drive me batty.

I can't rave about them enough, so I'll try to not get started...
I've been a faithful customer with them for 2 years now. It's all part of my go-natural-get-greener-save-the-planet personal journey.

My morning routine takes only about 5 minutes. Longer if I want to do something extra special with my eye colors. The buffing that is the trademark of all the mineral brands really is key, and a great quality brush makes a world of difference. I love their Long Handled Kabuki that they sell on their site.

I did a lot of research (BareEscentuals, Jane Iredale, etc...) and this is by far the most natural (only 4 ingredients) product with the widest range of colors I've seen around.

Their website is constantly growing. They have a message forum where the owner (Carina) is always asking peoples' opinions and input about current or upcoming products for production. I love that this is a woman-owned, homegrown business that you can actually interact with.

Go to the site, click on FREE SAMPLE, all you pay is the shipping. You can order as many of these as it takes to narrow down your proper foundation shade, they just technically have to be in separate orders or the system defaults and selects only one of the "free" samples.

The prices for quality are ridiculously reasonable compared to the other companies I've researched.

***I use the "intensive" formula for covering acne and scars and am fairly greasy. It lasts all day for me, I only dab with tissue to absorb some oiliness mid-day. I love the coverage, the texture, and how it lasts on my skin. I have a cold right now, so my nose is bright red, it is hard for me to tell if the makeup has worn off or if I am just too red for anything to actually cover it up.

This is timely. I had my first ever facial at Elizabeth Grady last week. I loved the mineral foundation the makeup artist put on my face. I NEVER wear foundation and have been avoiding it like the plague because I don't like the way it feels. But I'm at an age, where my skin tone could use some help. So I splurged and bought the mineral foundation, an applicator brush, and a milk cleanser. All together it was $120. (I think the foundation itself was $46). That is typically alot more than what I'd normally spend on makeup. (I'm a drugstore makeup kind of girl). But I really like this foundation and it does not wipe off (I have a cold too!) I love that it's on my face, but I can't feel it at all.

I also use the L'Oreal Bare Naturale. I use my own concealer and foundation (actually a powder) brushes and the results are SO much better than using the brushes that come with the makeup.

I tried this - some brand from the drugstore - and it was a disaster on me. I have combo skin which is very dry in spots, and slightly oily in others. It made my skin look dry and flakey all over.

I'm not sure why this didn't work for me. Was it the brand? Is there a difference between brands? Or is it something about my skin?

I'm willing to give it another shot, but I don't want to waste my money, and getting makeovers in a store always grosses me out. I worry about getting skin infections!

Sorry to sound like a sales rep!

With the Everyday Minerals you can choose from 4 different formulas:
Original Glo-looks dewy and young. not sparkly, kind of moist, used on dry skin.
Semi-Matte-a little matter than above, used by a lot of ladies with combo skin.
Matte- very dry, matte finish, great for oilier complexions.
Intensive (I use it)- more pigment, more coverage, great for acne & scars.

A lot of ladies will use Matte or Intensive on their t-zone, then Original or semi-matte on cheeks, eyes, and drier areas of their faces.

If you don't need much coverage, just need to even your tone (like with tinted moisturizer) there are also "finishing powders" that come in array of colors that aren't as pigmented as the standard foundations.

Again, sorry to seem like a fanatic, but this company has been nothing but great for my skin and my wallet. I really love what they do and how helpful their staff is.

I get drier, flakier skin in the winter and try to make sure that I keep up with my twice weekly exfoliations to cut down on the excess dead cells that are building up. Otherwise, I'll put extra moisturizer on my dry patches, really thickly glob it on for a few minutes, then dab away the excess and continue with my makeup.

Christie, I think this mineral makeup is a 1 on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the easiest to put on). I’ve never used a tinted moisturizer because my face is too blotchy for something like that that doesn’t cover up much. I had acne badly as a teen and have a lot of scars. It’s not a pain at all. It goes on the fastest of any makeup I’ve ever tired. The brushes certainly don’t make it harder; they make it application easier. It seriously only takes me about one minute to apply each day.

Wow Lauren, it sounds like you’re really happy with your mineral makeup. I’ll have to check that company out. My problem with the cold was not seeing a red nose but seeing make up on my Kleenex, so I knew it was coming off. For some reason this cold wasn’t bad enough to get a red nose… not that I’m complaining. : )

Hm, I may have to give Nicole’s brand a try to since it didn’t wear off with a cold. Forty-six dollars is a bit much, but if it’s great and lasts a long time I might be willing to try it. For now I may just try better brushes, because I hate to throw out makeup that I haven’t used up. Where did you get your brushes Kasmira?
