Hi Fabbers,
My MIL is was taken to hospital over Easter by ambulance and has now been in hospital for over a week. It is looking like it may be a long stay... 6 weeks has been mentioned.
She has a blood infection and the infection has spread to the pig's valve in her heart. (She had heart surgery some years ago where her valve was replaced with a pigs valve) Clearly this is a very serious situation, and while the valve is actually working fine at the moment, the doctors don't know how long that will continue. The cardiologist has said that at 84 he is not confident she would survive surgery and other options are being explored with a specialist who is coming up from Melbourne this coming week.
My MIL is doing well, She is in good spirits but quite emotional at times and quite tired. She is a women of great faith and says he is ready to go and be with the Lord.
Also my Sister In Law (DH's sister) has a Motor Neurone disease which is moving very quickly. We saw her yesterday at family function and there is really only a shadow of the person we know left. Of course this is a great worry to my MIL who desperately wants to be 'there' for her daughter.
DH is coping well and is at peace with the fact that his mum may not be with us too much longer, but I am not so at peace with it. DH's mum has been like a second mum to me. His parents are one of the main reasons we moved to Bendigo and I truly enjoy her company and value her input into my life. She is the kind of woman of faith that i hope to be and I know i will miss her terribly (as of course would DH).
We are trusting in God and know he has a plan, but it's still difficult.
I would so appreciate your thoughts and prayers for both my MIL and my SIL.
And I will keep you up to date with how things progress.
I appreciate you all so much.
xxx Deborah
UPDATE 11/4/13 - MIL seems to be doing well. Doctors think the antibiotics are doing their job. She has been having them intravenously every 4 hours since she has been in hospital (nearly two weeks). Tomorrow she is having another procedure which will show them if the medication is working and what state the valve is in.
Your kind words, thoughts and prayers have been therapy to me and I appreciate you all so much. xxx Deborah
