Midis with Booties....working toward fall. Advice?

I LOVE my Vince Camuto stretch midi skirts (ink blue and black). They've served me well through the summer, but now I'm trying to transition them into fall with some booties and boots and I need some opinions.

#1- Cognac Trotters (NAS purchase that I'm still deciding K/R)
#2 - Black booties (ancient!)
#3 - Chocolate brown mid-calf boots (JCrew, also ancient!)
#4-5 Report Marks tan suede booties
#6 - The lineup

Thoughts? (Remember the cognac ones can still be returned)

When I transition to fall with skirts and boots I usually add a dark hose/tight to minimize the transition in color. Except for the light ones in 4 I would suggest that for you...and then I can give a better opinion. They are all great boots

Good advice, Jayne. I can certainly add dark hose to ease the transition.....although that might not be as necessary with the tan booties.

I really like #3 more than #1 and #2, the higher shaft seems more deliberately saucy! I also LOVE #4-5, just superb with your hair. Thanks for sharing this look and being so creative.

Hoping to order a skirt like this soon, and also wondering how to wear my midis and booties. Have been experimenting a bit. Your legs are longer/slimmer so I believe you have more options than I may have. I like the higher boot with this skirt/top for you.

Wow, you look great in that skirt!

You have the height and shape to pull off the dark ankle boots with long-ish skirt, and I actually quite like the look of a dark boot/dark skirt/pink leg in between -- but it does chop the leg up a bit. Again, let me emphasize that I think you have the legs to pull it off. However, if you choose, you could do sheer black or patterned hose to minimize the abruptness of the transition.

I like the light colour of the booties in 4/5, but it does give the "standing in flowerpots" effect that Mo so amusingly describes.

nancylee, I'm so glad you posted this, because I'm wanting to try to wear booties with some of my skirts this fall, too, but I'm pretty stumped as to what looks good and what doesn't.

My first instinct for you is #4- the Report Marks ones. I like how they give you a long leg line and bookend your hair. But maybe I'm totally off base. I just don't know. But I don't think you look bad in any of them.

#2 and # look great as-is! I think you need either a lighter all-around top or a top with more lightness in the print (or a light scarf) for the Report Marks to keep it from getting too top heavy. With the cognac booties, the skirt feels a tad heavy; perhaps add in more black elsewhere like a watch or necklace or bracelet?

What thoughtful and helpful advice, everyone! It looks like 2 and 3 (along with 4) are getting the most love, which is really interesting. Originally, I thought #1 and #4 would be the winners....I just threw on the black and dark brown ones (2, 3) on a whim...but now that I take a good look at the photos and listen to everyone's opinions (and Angie's) I can see how they might work. I am going to experiment with some patterned tights/hose.

I haven't been feeling the love for the cognac Trotters. I was disappointed as soon as they came out of the box. They look ok in the photo, but IRL they just aren't that special. I think they're going back (sorry Inge!). I've got enough options with the others. (But part of me still craves cognac booties...so I might keep looking!)

I do love my tan Report booties. Aida, you make a really good point about balancing the light color with something lighter on top.

I think #2 is my fave of this lot. I think I would love #3 with some tights. I wear skirts that are sorta-midis (end right near the bottom of my knees) with booties and bare legs or tights a lot (see pics). I have one longer pencil that I wear with mid-calf booties, but I always wear tights (last pic). Don't know if these are helpful, but just thought I'd throw them out there :).

Jonesy, thank you so much for posting these super-helpful photos. You look great in every one (and now I remember seeing and admiring you in these looks in the past). I really love how you balance the elements in each outfit, pairing dark booties with darker tops, for example.

I'm going to use these as examples for myself going forward.

I actually like all of the boots. Agreed that you can add tights if you'd like but I don't think it's necessary. I think the slimness of the skirt and the skirt length make this work with booties quite well.

1,3 and 4 are all fab, do not really like nr 2, I have a pair almost the same like your tan suede, but wedges--don't have comfier shoes at the moment, cannot wait tot wear them:)
