Hi everyone,

I have been so inspired by many of the WIWs lately! Tonight I am meeting friends for a dinner out. I have decided to depart from the LA formula of jeans and heels. A few questions for the experts.....

I know you can't see the top that well but it is a plain black scoop neck. As it is fashion confession day I will tell you that because the skirt is so sheer even with built in underskirt, I am wearing a simple black midi dress underneath and the dress is creating the top.

-Too much black? Should I wear a tied white cotton button down layered over --kind of Carolina Herrera-esque?

-I know the skirt is not everyone's thing but I am a big fan of digital prints and florals. It's pretty OTT but that's why I like it. It has never made it outside my closet. Tonight may be its maiden voyage.

-Are black shoes too heavy? If I lighten top, I could wear gold shoes??

I don't think its too much black for a dinner out. I love your shoes in the first pic and I think the outfit is perfect as is. The leather jacket keeps the floral skirt from bring too OTT and prim IMO.

A lighter top would read day time to me. Have fun!

I love the skirt. It looks good to me with the black, but you could definitely lighten the top and wear those fab gold shoes. BTW, I don't think I've ever seen such a slimline wedge pump. Those are gorgeous!

I think that's a very interesting skirt and I see why you were drawn to it. Good for you for bringing it out to bloom! I like the photographic print flowers a lot.

I think for a night out it can work with black just fine. It does look very light/airy to me so I think it would also go great with the metallic shoes and a lighter (in color or cut) top.

Can you see your under dress through the skirt? If so, I would maybe wear cropped leggings or a slightly longer underskirt if you find the dividing line between the bottom of the underlayer and bottom of the overskirt is noticeable.

For the length of the skirt, I think it may be good to try cropped jackets, or higher heels as options, just to see how that reads to your eye. Or try pulling the waist up or down a bit. For me it looks a little between midi/tea length and maxi length and my eye keeps wanting to resolve it into one group or the other. (It's also possible it's just a camera angle thing, so ignore this if it doesn't match what you see with the naked eye).

You have long romantic red/brown hair right? I definitely think this skirt should come out to play more on you You should wear it tonight for sure, and it is good as you have styled it.

I don't think you can see the dress as it is looks like a slip but if I shorten the skirt I'll need a new way to cover sheerness up. I hear you on the length--I think 2 inches shorter would make it perfect. The waist is a little big so it keeps shifting around. I will try it with your suggestions.

I'm not sure my hair is romantic but it is long! If it's shorter, it gets wide (curly/wavy) so stylists advise this length is best.

My husband's assessment for the outfit was "very gypsy-ish"! haha

Woo-hoo! We're shoe twins -- I have those in silver! I'd wear 'em with that outfit as-is. Add some gold earrings and that's plenty of bookending for me!

I'm thinking of going the other way -- echoing the toughness in the moto with a pair of black booties. As long as they have a more refined toe box, I think it would look modern, not 70's boho.

A beautiful skirt and it looks lovely on you! I'm not real sure of your style just yet, but if I was going to wear that skirt, I'd pair it with some black booties, rather than the shoes. To me, the skirt and top need some "grounding" on the bottom - hence a heavier shoe/boot. Also, I would not wear any earrings as I think the skirt along with your gorgeous hair are all that is needed to make this outfit super fab!

Thanks for the suggestions!!! I would love to have more than one footwear choice. Heels and grass do not mix!

I am not confidant pairing booties with skirts/dresses. I am def late to this style. I love the look on others but never sure it works for me.

The first pic is my more dressy short boots. If they are refined I can not tell you. The first has a strong 80's maude frizon vibe and the second has perforations on one side.

The second pic has more rugged moto boot styles.

Heh, your husband. I think that any of the booties with the black top/jacket could potentially work, although you might find that depending on the way they fit at the ankle and how high they hit on your leg you prefer them with socks or tights. But I think for myself for first excursions with a new item it's sometimes nice to stay close to comfort zones.

So if you felt more comfortable with either the black wedges or metallic shoes, maybe a lighter short jacket, cardigan or overshirt (like the white button down you mention, brought in or tied at the waist) would balance them. But you are probably going to take off your jacket to eat, so that would also help with balance with shorter or scrunched sleeves underneath. So either way I wouldn't sweat it. Get used to the skirt, see how it feels in motion, know that it's going to look great with your hair no matter what you do with the top and shoes, and have fun!

Something I might try on in front of the mirror sometime (although it could fail horribly as well as look good, fair warning) are those metallic shoes with darker tights. That would be another way to work with a darker top and pick up the 'paler blooms on dark background' pattern of the skirt in the way the shoes and tights work together.

I love this skirt. It reads 'ultra feminine' to me. I love the shoe options you have, if pressed for choice I'd like to see it with the silver shoes as the first choice.
And I don't think wearing black shoes and top is too much black... however, I can see this skirt worn Carolina Herrera style and, as a recent convert, I suggest trying it with chambray also for casual daytime option.

Oops--just missed first photo group. Not intentional!

The skirt was a hit! I felt great! I went with the perforated boots because I had not worn them yet and it was a night for firsts!

I feel like I am having a style breakthrough thanks to you. I can now see the skirt with chambray or white shirt and pointy nude patent ankle straps. I also like it with booties. Thanks for helping me see the options!

I've seen you IRL and I know you will look amazing in this outfit! That skirt goes with the flow of any music! I would go with either the metallics or the black booties. You can rock either look and I love your style; you know that. Have fun with hubs and I like all his musical tastes.
