Michelle Williams' dress getting flak

I think it's pretty brave of her to wear something different - no cleavage or excess - sure it's not glamorous but she looks lovely to me. What do you think?

It's a cute dress vs. a glam dress. I've seen her in better dresses, and those cloud thingies make her wider than she appears.

Agree; she's pretty brave not to go glam but to wear a fat day dress. But what is with those plain black pumps? I find the shoes more jarring.

I can't decide whether those are rorshach ink blots or speech bubbles. Either way, not a fan. She usually gets praise for her retro "60's mod" ensembles which are typically modest and not OTT...I'm okay with her getting grief on this one. Too twee for me.

I think it's cute, and perfectly appropriate for the luncheon event. I do agree with Donna that different shoes would be better though.

She gets a lot of criticism for looking very "twee" (as does Zoe Deschanel). I tend to agree, but I also know it's hard not to look that way with a pixie cut and a round face, especially sporting the current trends. She does look very cute, and of course I love her haircut. : )

"Too twee" was my first thought as well. It's a combination of the pixie cut, round face, cute dress and juvenile pose, IMO. She doesn't look sassy, she just looks...sweet. Not a fan, I'm afraid.

I don't know. I'm not in love with it. It's not a total fashion disaster, and, let's face it, it would be difficult to make Michelle Williams look unattractive. But I don't think that dress would make anyone's top ten most fabulous dresses list.

I love it, it's a rainy day dress! Michelle Williams always knows what she wants to wear and does it simply, and I don't think this is an exception.

Hmm...she reminds me so much of Jean Seberg, though not as sophisticated. I think it's just the pixie!

Anyway, the dress. Surprised that it's from Victoria Beckham's collection. (I usually associate super vampy and showstopping with VB.) Is this what whimsical looks like? And a bit of Japanese-twee-avant-garde? In any case, she's got people looking and talking about her, and it certainly doesn't look like your 'typical' sexy leading lady high-profile dress, being a little shapeless. It's different. It suits her public persona, I think.

I think the dress fits her personality, so I like it! Twee would look stupid on Angelina Jolie, but Michelle Williams seems very sweet to me. Why should all stars have to dress like sexy godesses on the red carpet? They earned the right to be there, and they earned the right to wear a dress they love.

Helps that I heart Victoria Beckham and her clothes, too.

I'm with citygirldc on this one. Michelle looks cute and I like her choice only for the fact that she didn't go the traditional glam formula, but chose something that spoke to her. Still, she seems only to be channeling Mia Farrow and the '60s "Rosemary's Baby" look.

I love it and think it suits her perfectly. It's not red carpet, because she is not attend a "red carpet" event, it was only the nominations luncheon, and she looks perfectly dressed for a luncheon IMHO.

I adore her no matter what!

I think she looks amazing-Mia Farrow was my thought as well. (love Michelle's short hair!)
This is for an awards luncheon, not the actual awards ceremony, and I think that this looks appropriate.

The colors are pretty on her. The collar and yoke are neat and attractive and suit her. The sequined rain lines are nice. The lines of the rain clouds seem to expand her silhouette and obscure any shape that might lurk within.
