Michael Kors polka dot dress - keep or return?

I know I posted about this before, so my apologies.

I bought this Michael Kors dress:

Normally I wouldn't have taken a chance on a sheath dress, especially in a loud print like this, being the pear that I am, but the price was deeply discounted and I felt like I had decent success with the Liberty of London for Target dress, so it was worth a shot:

But back to the polka dot dress. I knew when i bought it I would most likely have to have it tailored. I also need to find a sweater or jacket to wear over it because I don't do sleeveless.

Here I am wearing the dress with a sweater I found today. I'm holding the dress up because the top is much too large on me, but that's typical for my body type.

This sweater was more out of desperation after a hunt today and isn't fab because it's a little cheap looking and the dress totally shows through it:

Chances are any white or yellow sweater I find will do the same, and a red sweater feels kind of like Minnie Mouse to me. Then I thought of getting a cropped white moto or jean jacket.

I'm already wondering if this is becoming more of a mission than something I'm doing for fun, and if I've put too much time and energy into this dress. Finally, DH asked why I didn't just return it? If I was going to be running all over finding a top to go with it and going to shell out money to get it altered, wouldn't it just be better to find something that actually fits and flatters in the first place?

The man may have a point.

So...keep? Return? Sell to the highest size 12 bidder?

The dress is super cute. I love the dot pattern and the style is perfect for you (after the bodice alterations you mention). Perhaps gather the comments from the forum, then put the dress away for a few days. Come back to your project when you're fresh. Then decide to keep and alter or return. Everybody has their own creative process... I just know that sometimes if I step back for a few days, I come back with a whole new perspective.

I had to sign into my flikr to see the photos..that might be why some of you can't see them.
I have to wonder (as beautiful as the dress is) if it is really worth the trouble of the alterations given the fact that you won't wear it without a sweater over it. I wonder if it would be money better spent on a beautiful summer dress with sleeves that you are comfortable with.

I'm with Kim. If you're only going to cover it up with a sweater anyway, I don't think it's worth the alterations.

NK - The Liberty ofo London dress is awesome on you! I think the polka dot sheath is also awesome on you and has a totally vibe to it - more potential to get dramatic?

Anyway, if you can utilize both sleeveless sheath dresses, keep the polka dot and wear it with the white cropped sweater. I don't know how different it is in person, but the amount of polka dots you can see through does not bother me in the least. This is summer wear and often sheer, lightweight. The sheath itself is classic and maybe next summer you will find something else you like to wear over it. . . ?

If the bodice alterations are significant $$, then queenie may be on the right track.

I really like it! It looks fantastic on you. I say keep and alter.

I like it - can you exchange it for a petite size? My sheath (the blue and black) is a petite and it really helped the top to fit better.

Also check out the cardi I posted today ... that would be so cute with this dress!

Actually, I can't exchange it for a petite size because I bought it from MyShape.com and paid a whopping $42 for it instead of the $139, or whatever the regular price is. It was the only size available, and I figured at that price, I could shell out the extra dough to have it tailored.

I love that cardi you posted, Laura! Too bad the pretty pink color is sold out and there's no Bloomie's by me.

That's a great denim jacket, but I don't know about white? It's hard to visualize. Maybe Angie would be better at that part.

That is a really fab jacket, and probably the more cropped the better for wearing with a dress. Why not order it and see how it looks with the dress?

Meanwhile, and maybe this is just me and how annoyingly persistent I can be, but if you really like that DKNY cardi, you might try calling Bloomie's 800 number. A lot of times the stores have stock that is sold out on the website. For example, the red cardi I bought in store yesterday is nowhere to be found online.

I like the fact that the polka dots are in a diagonal instead of horizontal.
It's a very cute sheath dress.
