Metalicus closing down sale and skirt question.

For the Australians.
You may already know that Metalicus is closing down.
I am interested in their tube skirts and wondered what size to get.
My waist is around 28 and hips 38 inches
Any thoughts?

That is sad. I have always rather like Metalicus. As far as I know they generally just have two sizes: s-m size and l-xl size in their clothing. Someone may correct me on that.

That is disappointing news even though I never shopped there! I adored seeing all the beautiful items that you and Brooklyn and Deborah and others had purchased there over the years.

My understanding is that they were sold a couple of years back and then changed their core business - marketing to a much younger demographic - and they lost their goodwill and failed in the new market.

It was General pants co that purchased them in 2016.

Sal: yes I remember they used to be all about layering.... and then some more layering. It was all about playing with different shapes and length on top of each other. Then the last few years they started including things that would seem to show a little more skin and cling a little more, not so much piling up the layers.
I preferred the old metallicus but still liked their new style well enough to purchase a few pieces here and there.

Yes I read something that said a lack of innovation.

It is a really hard line I know - stick with the true and tested, or evolve and risk alienating the existing base.

(incidentally I have seen a few ïnfluencers" refer to all their followers as Babes... I don't know what to think about that)

Yeah, I unsubscribed to them months ago because I was becoming increasingly offended by their marketing - referring to women as babes, captions like "hang up on him babe" (ie because you are so super hot in your dress) and featuring models with fingers in their mouths and other suggestive poses. I figured I was no longer in their target market! I do wonder what the thinking was there.

Thanks for the links Sal, some of which I saw too, but hadn't thought to post.

Brooklyn, the store near me closed a while ago, and while I apparently did get their emails (just checked) I never read them as they went straight to the promotions folder! Sounding less and less like it is worth pursuing at all.

What a shame. I hadn't actually bought anything but had considered it a few times when I was in Kimberleys ( NZ) - a chain which also went under a few months ago. Weird how these brands don't seem to consider that their customers in their 40s and 50s are greater in number and more affluent than the young customers?

I did not know this so thank you for posting Anne. I have only ever bought their tops for layering under knits and dresses. They were a nice quality and always washed up well. I have never bought one of their skirts.

Yes I am totally with Brooklyn on this! I got an email from them talking about their dress and my booty, and I decided it was time to unsubscribe.
As it had pretty much been my favourite everyday label (great for work and travel), I actually emailed them to say I was sad to see their change in direction (and that I found some of their new advertisements verging on offensive). I got some kind of auto reply, saying they had been sold, and they hoped i liked their "new direction".
If Metalicus had been serious about extending their customer base, they would have been better sticking to higher end great fabrics, but extending their sizes - I am a size 10-12 Australian and usually took a M-L size in Metalicus ( I don't like clothes too body-con). I'm pretty sure a standard size 14 Australian (10 in the US) would have been sized out in many of their items.
So I'm another sad customer.

Anne if it helps I have a Metalicus tube skirt in a Small. Sad news indeed! But you probably know they were bought out by General Pants and changed the brand so much it was no longer recogniseable new range looked very like Kookai.

Thanks Deborah, I may check the section within myer tomorrow. I didn't know about the changes until I was looking into them after starting this thread.
