Metallic stripe dress - fitting room y/n

I like the length and the silver and gold with black. Kinda Missoni- ish. Might have to take up the shoulder a bit if I get it. What do you think?

My first thought was that I love your stripey hair too! So fun!

Janet, I find that a wide horizontal band across the waist emphasizes an already short waist. I understand how mesmerizing it is to find a knee covering frock, and the neckline is extremely pretty on you. Just not entirely on-board with the waist detailing. It's still a lovely frock though! What do you think?

Angie, I honestly didn't see the waist issue -- I am always looking more intently at what dresses do to my hips. Hmm, I'm looking at the photo and I'm not sure it bothers me. I can see that a thinner waist detail would mask my short torso more effectively. A minimizer bra might help too. This dress is, er, bust enhancing. I would consider having the neckline stitched up a bit.

I have it on hold at the store through tomorrow, so I welcome additional feedback!

Honestly, I think this dress makes your figure look AMAZING. Which is all the more amazing since it isn't a particularly short or revealing dress. I think it is very flattering, and while the band at the waist might highlight it, it doesn't make it look like that's all there is to your waist, if that makes sense. The vertical stripes on the bottom make it blurry so it doesn't appear that your waist begins and ends at the band.

Interesting to read the other comments. I actually don't mind the bust or the waist at all, but something about how the stripes fall seem to be a little hip widening, and I know you usually are sensitive to that. Maybe it's just the photo?

I absolutely know how brilliant it is when you finally find a frock that is long enough, that's for sure!
I didn't really see the "waist shortening" effect, but have to admit that the wide band looked a little off to me too. It felt a little jarring with the rest of the gorgeous pattern and colours (love the vertical stripes). The horizontal stripes on the band appear to be a slightly different colour (more beigey background) than the rest of the dress, and - perhaps I'm mistaken - the fabric of the band appears to be a different material than the rest of the dress too? I think that's what bothering me more.

Actually, it's all the same fabric, it just doesn't photograph well and I didn't get a closeup photo so you could see the detail of the fabric. It's all knit, and all the stripes you see that are not black are either white, silver, or gold. The gold looks beige here.

Ah thanks for clearing that up, Janet. I'm still not completely sold on how it contrasts with the rest of the dress (which I love). But if you love it and feel fab in it, go for it!! (we really do need to snap up decent length dresses when we see them).

If it feels fab, then can you take it home and try it there in better light/ better photo? Because I felt the waist was jarring, too -- I think because it is a lighter band. If it were darker, it wouldn't have bothered me. And otherwise, it's beautiful on you. It seems to me that if that band is actually gold, it probably looks a whole lot better IRL than in the photos.
