Metallic shoes: do they attract commentary?

This summer I have been wearing mostly three different pairs of shiny/metallic shoes to work: the AGL pearlized grey oxfords, the bronze perforated oxfords, and the Ecco touch sneakers in a gold/metallic color. Yesterday my colleague (male) came up to me and said: "you always wear shiny shoes. One day gold shoes, the next day silver shoes." And it's not the first time metallic shoes have elicited commentary, especially the Touch sneakers. I honestly think of metallics as a neutral, especially in delicate summer shoes so I always get surprised at the commentary on how bold they are.

Yup! I have a lot of metallic shoes for summer and my husband calls them my weird shiny shoes. I also think of them as neutrals, but I accept the fact they stand out to others.

Not much experience as I have only one pair of block heel shiny silver sandals. I have worn them two times and got loads of compliments. Even one lady told me her daughter was commenting that she hoped her legs looked as good as mine when she gets to my age. So I think it is like wearing a bright red dress or something-they get noticed.

I get comments -- usually compliments from women -- when I wear my silver loafers. I think AT is right; they get noticed more because they stand out.

Whenever the babysitter sees me wear these sandals, she says, "Oh, the shiny shoes are out!" Don't know if that is good or bad, LOL!

Yes. I have several pairs of metallic shoes. I've had comments from, "Wow!" to "GREAT shoes!" to "Those are fantastic!" to " Your shoes are silver. Huh." The last one was from an acquaintance who violated my mother's rule of not saying anything if you can't say anything nice. It's like saying, "You got your hair cut" without saying it looks nice.

Yes, I have received commentary on my metallic shoes, even from complete strangers. A women on a train station came to me, apologized (I thought she is going to ask for directions or something like that) and said - I just have to tell you how much I love your shoes. I was wearing my silver oxfords.
And my husband loves my silver pumps so much (usually never notices my shoes) that he convinced me to duplicate them so that I have a spare pair for when they get too worn looking.

My only metallic shoes are pewter-and-black; I think they get noticed less than my red, purple, mustard, and turquoise pairs of shoes. I've always had a soft spot for boldly coloured shoes. But really, anything that's not black/white/brown is likely to elicit comments.

I think SHINY shoes get noticed. My shiny patent oxfords get an inordinate amount of comments even though they are a dark color and a classic, sedate style.

I think of metallic colors as neutral as well. I agree that if anything stands out from the norm, people will notice and comment. But, it sounds like they are a hit.

Yes, this happens to me all the time. I have and wear a lots of metallic shoes, especially my silver and rose-gold oxfords. Sometimes I get compliments, sometimes strange stares. I don't care too much. The only time I felt awkward is when my boss commented on my silver booties.

Coming back to add that the closest to nude shoes I've ever owned are my distressed pale gold oxfords. They're matte and very distressed but even then people sometimes notice the color.

I would only get comments on my pearly silver clogs now and then until I started to wear them with dresses/skirts and cropped pants; now I get comments every.single.time. I rarely get comments on my silver K-Swiss sneakers, probably because the super thick platform aren't everybody's cuppa. I've only worn the Steve Madden gold sneakers once or twice, and I don't think I've gotten any comments. Not sure if I've had any comments on the Topshop Angie shoes; haven't worn them too much. I have the Fly London Ylva in pewter and I've worn them a LOT but I don't recall any comments. They aren't shiny so don't really attract one's eyes.

And yes, I have my eyes on Alaskagirl's Topshop booties. . .

I used to get compliments on my Sofft pewter gladiators (both pairs worn out and gone the way those go). I haven't received many comments on the current silvery footwear (RL gladiator, Ecco sandal, Ecco sneaker, Topshop pumps), but who knows why. Maybe people around here are getting used to it, or getting used to me wearing it!

sounds like I'm not the only one receiving comments. Note that these aren't necessarily compliments--more of a "your shoes are super shiny...and that's weird" kind of feel.

I have a big thing for gold shoes and I never get comments. There's a newish movement in the childhood cancer world to wear gold shoes as a conversation starter about childhood cancer. When I read about this a few months ago I chuckled because I've been wearing gold shoes since high school and have had 0 people chat me up about why, or really comment on my shoes much at all.

I have silver and gold shoes and never get comments! Both of mine are muted and not SHINY shiny, perhaps that's why. Or maybe people are just used to me in loud outfits?

I own a lot of metallic shoes as they work well as a "neutral" for me. I do get comments about them from time to time... all positive. BTW -- I love your shoes and would wear any of those styles in a heartbeat. And I do not consider any of yours to be super shiny -- but I admit bias here.

I have a pair of silver heeled booties and they get a lot of positive comments, mostly from men. TBH I think guys will often comment on shoes when they actually like an entire outfit, but don't want to come off like creepers.

I have bronze wedges, bronze flip flops, copper birks and silver Fly Londons. I often get comments about my shoes when I wear them. People will ask me where I got my copper birks and silver Flys. I think of them as neutrals too. Very versatile.

When I first started wearing my sliver oxfords I got a few comments/compliments at work, from a few female co-worker friends who also like shoes. (I got one of them to buy some Eccos, in fact!) But after the initial wearing, no more comments.

It is interesting how this kind of thing is handled differently in different office cultures. In my office, comments on personal appearance are rare, except in the women's restroom. (For what it's worth, my office is about 25% female.)

The Remonte shoes pictured below are floral with a dusting of gold glitter. I just had to have them because they were wonderfully quirky. (Fortunately they are also quite comfortable.) I haven't worn them to work yet, but I bet they get a few comments, probably from the same couple of people.

Yes! I get comments all the time. I guess I do like silver shoes but Frinds and coworkers make all sorts of comments, all are nice but my shiny feet definitely get noticed!

I guess there's shiny and then there's Shiny. Some shine more and get noticed more.

My personal experience is you'll get a lot less comments with sandals / pumps then with oxfords or sneakers... May be that oxfords are inspired by men's footwear and those are hardly shiny. May be sneakers are associated with sports hence the same.
Shiny is associated with dressy I guess. So sandals/ pumps get better accepted. I hardly wear anything else in summer coz it's too hot here and a couple of regulars which are shiny rarely invite comment.. Golden t straps, black and pewter. I guess oxfords /sneakers have more area to shine. Sandals' shine gets offset with skin.

Nishaa, I think you're on to something with that theory. It's the gold/silver sneakers that attract the most comment--maybe because sneakers are not usual shiny?

RunsWithScissors: my office is probably about the same, if not a lower percentage of women, but the men comment on women's clothes a fair bit...

Another, here, who regards metallic as a neutral. I have shoes and accessories in silver and pewter, and wear them all the time, but I have never had one comment - good or bad! I'm not sure what that says about me!
