I always love looking at red carpet fashions...and the Met Gala tends to bring out the most innovative flamboyant looks of all.

My favourite looks were:

Sarah Jessica Parker - wild headpiece and nailed the theme.
Justin Bieber - I know, but he looked stylish
Rihanna - where else would you wear this cloak.....totally OTT

There were several others who looked gorgeous but I think this night is about being out there!

I want this thread to be appropriate and respectful but I do have some queries about why celebrity looks are becoming so sheer, basically almost nude? I know these looks gain publicity, website and Instagram clicks, and possibly future sponsorship.....but they are from talented well respected artists who in my mind, don't need to resort to being naked in public. It does offend my feminist side.

Any other comments on the gala fashions?

I did see some people thought SJP's head dress was culturally insensitive. Not sure myself.

I also loved Anne Hathaway's dress with a hood. I thought it was elegant and funky and cool.

Well, I did notice KKs see through number but it looked like she had breast-colored pasties on so that the camera wouldn't catch nipple. I don't know how she managed on ahem,bottom. In a recent Hello Magazine that my husband nabbed in London, Kim's thong showed through her sheer skirt at her daughters baptism in Jerusalem. I was surprised that she didn't know better by now that when the camera flashes on a sheer gown it's like putting on X-ray goggles. Bum-mer Kim, your bottom was actually the star of this very special event in North's life.

What a feast for the eyes--thanks, Kiwigal. I am drawn to the more elegant gowns, but I also appreciate the more costume-like styles. I'm not a fan of the fake-sheer looks, like Kim Kardashian's or Beyonce's. They both rock those looks, but it's just more suggestive than what I like to look at. Same with Miley Cyrus's dress. I loved Carey Mulligan's sculptural black gown. Also Keri Russell's olive feathery and sequined look. And the beautiful white pants outfits on Liya Kebede and Diane Kruger.

Diane Kruger has great taste, and looked wonderful I agree Shevia and Firecracker. Carey Mulligan too. I missed the other ones you mentioned.

Overall with exception of some of the above mentioned, the overall fashion was meh and uninspired. Definitely not in the spirit of the theme.
Beyonce has been doing the nude sparkly thing for quite a while. Her pre-Gala instagram pics, are um, interesting.

I love looking at The Met Gala too. I was looking at the pics yesterday and my jaw just dropped at that coat Rhianna was wearing....what a show stopper!

My other favorites were Chloe Sevigny and Karen Elson.

I don't mind the sheer looks but I feel like it's been done and they should move on.

I really loved SJP's dress and robe and headpiece. I thought she looked gorgeous. I also really loved Zendaya Coleman's crazy dress. Helen Mirren was stunning, and I loved the way her clutch coordinated with her dress.

I was not a big fan of the ice-dancing costumes, though.

I saw this slideshow from the NY Times yesterday...my impression was that everyone looked really sulky.

Thanks Angie, Anna, Echo and Jeanie. I looked up sone of those fashions... Helen Mirren is constantly amazing, and Zendaya's look was fun, flirty and theme appropriate.

I do think with the sheer looks can't we just say:
Yes you have a great body
yes you have a good waxer and a good workout routine
Yes you are desirable
yes this is another way to use sequins so you are sort of covered
Now let's move on!

Interesting......some very beautiful frocks here, and some not so.
I must admit I love the simplicity of Selena Gomez in the white Vera Wang number. The style and colour suit her very much and the dress is glamorous and has a subtle sexiness. If you didn't know better, she may be mistaken for a bride, but very pretty all the same.

I understand what you mean. I surely know they are meant to be those of taking risks rather than look dull, but Beyoncée, Kardashian, Lopez, Jamie Bochert ....& even SJ Parker... did they need doing that, really??? But worst look ever Jennifer Connely-OMG:-(....

Loved Carey Mulligan for simplicity and Solange Knowles for the difference:-). What about guys? Eddie Redmayne was really handsome (Hannah Bagshave was pretty too), loved Adrien Brody's jacket, and the Clooney couple was lovely, too:-).

Helen Mirren's dress is the best. Matches well with the theme but not too costumy. Gong Li's dress is stunning from the back. The front picture doesn't do it justice.
