Men's trends

I haven't been following men's fashion closely lately but DH is finally dropping hints on what he's interested in for his birthday -- clothes. Anyone got any thoughts on men's trends appropriate for someone who is inherently a conservative dresser but with a bit of rock and roll spirit? Let's just say it's suit and tie looks during the week (he will be adventurous with color but not pattern) and grateful dead t shirts and leather on the weekend. He often likes John Varvatos Collection, but the spring items are not to his taste, and some AllSaints for his off duty looks.

Oh I love men's fashion. I even like borrowing from them ever now and again.

This is what I like to see. Not sure about trends. I so like a nice shoe a leather or faux cuff suspenders or great fitting jeans cuffed.

Earlier this spring the New York Times had more than one Sunday magazine section devoted to men's fashion. Maybe you can find something on line. My overall take was narrower jeans and trousers and short, showing some ankle.

I love Bernard's replies.

I love, love, love menswear and follow PittiUomo street shots every summer. That said, I know nothing about what's trending for the average guy - and I wish I could contribute. DH wears a uniform for work, and then goes into gear for his days off. Sadly, often the same gear for days on end He costs so little to maintain.

Lisa, he was never so happy shopping as when we were in Florence a couple of years ago, so perhaps you're right that Pitti Uomo is a good place to check out looks.

Bernard, he does love his shirts and ties, but he is not as dedicated to them on the weekend as you are (unless we are going out for dinner).

Joy, he already likes the narrow pants trend for suits and jeans.

Gosh! What fun! I love shopping with and for guys (I have 3!)

The men I see are generally a conservative lot (I'm in the business/banking) part of town. Still, there is a common thread of slim fitting slightly short dress pants (a shrunken suit trend is the extreme) with great shoes and colourful socks that co-ordinate with tie and/or shirt.

A couple of years ago DH and I did a sort/purge of his closet early in the month of his birthday, and then we made a list and spent a weekend shopping just for him in the big city. He liked this so much, he asks to repeat every year!

Lulu Lemon no boxer boxers - (the long ones) were hugely popular with my sons. I bought a couple pair for DH, and he loved them. I've been to 2 different stores and bought out their available stock in DH's size in an effort to replace his smalls, per his request. They are kind of a present for me too!
