Patience,
My husband runs 5 miles a day, and he wears long shorts. I just bought him 3 pair of basketball shorts at Olympia. He does not like anything shiny or flashy, so they are just plain, I think one pair has a white stripe along the side and the other two are solid.
I don't think he wears pants to run, but he does have a few pair of track pants to wear when he's coaching, or going to outdoor sporting events. He does not like them to have that mesh lining because he claims it is too hot (even here in New England). So, you might want to confirm with hubby how warm he wants the pants to be. They have track pants that have no lining at all--they can be difficult to find. They have track pants that have a mesh lining. And they have track pants that have an even thicker warmer felted lining.
Also, you might want to pick him up some running socks. I think this can make a big difference in comfort and is a nice thoughtful addition to his running gear. I am a firm beleiver in wearing the right gear for the right activity. Under Armour makes some nice athletic tops that come in various warmth levels. Some are lightweight and are just meant to wick sweat away from the skin. Some are a little thicker and meant for cooler days, and some are like neoprene sweatshirts, which are warm enough to wear when it's below freezing.
