Melbournians: Where to shop?

Hi you lovely Aussie gabbers! I am excited to come to Melbourne for two weeks in August to see my old pen pal who lives in Brighton. I love your city!!!!

I would like to know where to shop as I am aware Melbourne is full of fantastic designers of all types. Last time I was there was 2007 so I assume there is a whole new crop of designers.

I love what Lady Melbourne wears on her blog, and if you look at some of my WIWs you might see what kind of style I like. Any ideas? I'm not so into "arty" type clothes, and prefer european styling.

Lovely to hear you will be in my city next month!
I am meeting with Deborah this week, so I am sure we can come-up with some suggestions for you re. local designers and locations.
Perhaps a meet-up can be arranged if you will have the time whilst you are here too?

Kary if you like PM your dates in Melbourne. I grew up only a minutes away from Brighton and know that area well. I think you would relate to the local stores quite well. There are some lovely shops in that area and I think you might enjoy a trip to Chadstone Shopping Centre too.

Lady Melbourne thrifts a lot and seems to be a fan of ASOS and Etsy so I haven't been able to garner particular store ideas for you. Lyn D and I will brain storm for you though:) and see what we come up with.

I am thinking you might like to take a look at Veronica Maine. You might like some things at Blue Illusion and Country Road to name a few.

I would live to meet you ladies! I love veronica maine and last time i was there i also liked alana hill. The gf i am staying with in brighton e. Will be at work during the days so it may be entirely possible to find my way to you. How fab would that be!!! I will pm deborah my dates. K

How exciting! I did think of Alana Hill for you but wasn't sure as I find some of her designs bordering on costume but they they are cute. Will take a look at your dates and see what we can do. I only work part time and I know Lyn D as some regular commitments but if we plan in advance, I am sure we can make a meet up happen. xx

I don't know if Sass and Bide have a store in Melbourne. They have I think at least two in Sydney. I like their stuff.

Melbourne is a fabulous place to shop! I would recommend the CBD (ensure you wander through all the arcades which has a lot of great little boutiques) and Chapel Street which is in South Yarra (about 15 mins from the center of the CBD).

I'm Sydney-based but my husband is from Melbourne so we visit regularly, love that city.

Sass & Bide have several stores in Melbourne. Life With Bird is a Melbourne designer I like. I don't have time to see your style right now. What is European styling? As well as Chapel St there is Lygon St in Carlton, though further from Brighton. Sass & Bide & Life With Bird are both on Chapel St. I love the little lanes in the city too. I forget exactly where they start but run roughly from Australia on Collins to Flinders St.

Melbourne is so great for shopping. My favourite spots are the CBD lanes and Chapel Street.

The coffee is also great. NZers and Australians tend to drink espresso style and take it quite seriously! Often the best bars and cafés are not obvious that is where local knowledge is such an advantage!

I like Sabine, Veronika Maine, Country Road, Metallicus.

I am jealous!

I also like French Connection in Australia. They have different stuff than here in the US. Seed sometimes has some cool stuff. The GPO in the city has some cool shops, including Life With Bird.
