Maya vs. NAS: Round II (long)

I went back to Nordstrom today and paced myself. Still didn't find too much, but I did pick this little knit jacket up, which Angie recommended to me:

Everyone was right that the color was a little dull, so I ended up getting the black. I have pictures but it doesn't show up at all, unfortunately. But it is cute and cozy. Good for casual days.

I also got a pair of OTK socks but they are thigh high on me and don't stay up. Too bad, because they are soooo cute :(, but I'm just not willing to introduce a garter belt as part of my everyday wardrobe! They're not on the website anymore but they had little bows in the back.

I also got some leggings. Not very exciting but necessary.

I REALLY liked this top but it was out of stock in black and white in a small. They said it was showing up in their stock records, but it just wasn't to be found. So frustrating. It's completely gone in black and white online too. I'm going to call and see if it's in stock anywhere (or alternately, if anyone sees it in their local store, let me know). I am going to have to decide between this (if it's available), the Flounce ruched sleeve top (which was not in my store, unsurprisingly, and the BCBG top. All of them have their perks but I can't afford more than one.

I also tried on another black and white top but I can't remember the brand name and can't find it online. Helpful, I know. I liked the Halogen one more though.

I also saw the puff sleeve cardigan I ordered and was disappointed. It is much less rich in person and rather dull. I'll be sending that back.

I tried the Me Too Precious flats and they were not comfy for me. Dug into my big toe bone.

So all in all it wasn't a major success but at least not a resounding failure.

On a side note, I am having a minor apoplexy at how much this is costing me. I know most of it is destined to be returned but still..I never spend this much money at once on anything! This week I'll be getting the Nine West Gianne boots, BCBG zip sleeve shirt, faux mink blanket for Lucie, Eric Michael OTK boots, and that disappointing cardigan in addition to the things I bought today. And if that Halogen shirt is in stock somewhere, I'll be getting that too. Scary!

Maya don't feel too bad, I purchased 39 items at NAS. I sat and did my total (which I am too embarrassed to tell) and then sat and redid the total if it were the full prices and not NAS price to make myself feel better. I expect I'll keep 1/3 of my total if not less. In my defense, many of this is two sizes of the same item, or two of the same item in different colors. And I do plan to return quite a bit. AND there's a bunch of bras (3), undies (6), and layering t's (6) in that mix. Needless to say I have never, ever spent this much on clothes before and I am currently sorting through as things trickle in. It would be nice if I just HAD everything already so I can make decisions and do one heck of a round of returning.

Tara, it is quite casual. It's a terry material. Almost like a sweatshirt but prettier. You're a much snazzier dresser than I am so I'm inclined to say pass. Sorry But it's your fault for being so snazzy!

Lisa, you're just starting out on your YLF wardrobe journey, so you *should* spend a lot. I would like to keep a few pennies aside for DC too! I'll be on a shopping ban for months to come...

Maya, I was in shock too with my NAS spending Let's see how many items I've got: clothing (8), shoes (3), boots (2), bra (2), boyshorts (6), tights (3) - together 24. And it looks like nothing is going back so no relieve for my budget. I also never spent so much in one go!
I thought I am done with clothing spent until Christmas. Well, I had to find a top to wear with my new Hinge jacket and jeans, hadn't I? Oh well, this never ends...

Tara, you should try the jacket. It is a good casual jacket if you need one and very comfortable. I vote black or charcoal color for you!

Maya, I have also never bought so many wardrobe items just for me at one go. But I rather LIKE that. At least in my case, I probably would have gotten most of those items in smaller purchases over 6 months time. Like Lisa, I am at the start of my YLF journey, regaining my sense of style (regaining ANY sense of style) and updating, updating, updating. Still, it's a lot at one go. But if you think of it as what you would otherwise be purchasing over several months, maybe you'll just feel more efficient.

Angie will make sure you only keep the best of the best anyway.

I'm wearing the jacket in the socks pictures Angie, but as I said, you can't really see anything I'll try again this week.

I also saw the Alexis Bittar horseshoe necklace I have been coveting, on sale even. But it was still too expensive for me

Maya, Cathy and I both tried on the Flounce puff sleeve top today for you! We liked it, and feel that the length isn't too long. I am just back from our fab shopping day and I have a billion things to do, but I'll post pictures for you sometime tomorrow.

Maya, that's disappointing that the puff sleeve cardigan isn't richly colored...I assume you're talking about the "port" colored one, right? I ordered that one...

and hopefully I should be getting my NAS shipment tomorrow after they failed to deliver it to me on Friday...

I agree with Sparky. I usually shop sporadically throughout the year and in small doses. And it's left me with a mess of a wardrobe as well as lots of morning frustrations everyday. Since reading YLF I've been trying to purge, streamline, identify and stay with one consistent style. I am hoping by the end I will have an efficient wardrobe with only pieces I love and shop one in and one out. And future NAS will be 1-3 fab items. Until then I consider this the growing pains period. At least for my wallet.

Yes C1, the port color. It was rather muted. I was surprised. It's more brown-ish red than I expected.

Melissa (and Cathy), I'm smiling big right now! Thank you for including me on your shopping trip, at least in spirit. I can't wait to see it on! It isn't a NAS item so I feel okay sitting on it for a while. I'd rather get the Halogen top since the price is so low and it is so versatile. I can layer it in fall and winter and wear it unlayered while summer is still here and I want to give my frocks a rest. BUT, the puff sleeve top is definitely on my to-get list.

Sparky and Lisa, you're both just starting out on your style journey so I totally get your shopping strategy. I have no excuses :p

I think the BCBG top is most likely going back. It's too expensive for what it is. I'll probably get the Halogen top instead, if they find it in my size. The puff sleeve cardi is also going back. So I have already eliminated two things...

LOVE that knit jacket, Maya -- the shape makes it, regardless of color.

...and the NAS "Number of Items Purchased" award goes to [drum roll] -- Lisa! Who wisely got two sizes of certain items without panicking, knowing that she would be returning at least one of each of those items. Smart strategy, Lisa.

Tarzy: I found knit blazers/jackets very useful for traveling, so if you want something that you could sleep in on a flight, throw in your bag and pull out and have it be not too wrinkled, then for that I highly recommend a knit jacket like this one...

Sounds like a successful trip!! Oooh love that halogen silk shell. Charcoal colour is gorgeous!! Sorry to hear the ruched sleeve cardi didn't excite you - I was officially craving it after you posted pics of it earlier. Do you mean the colour or the material was less rich and dull? Shame cos it looks soooooo good in the pics!

You're getting the EM boots?? Please please please post pics as soon as you get em. I am still 50/50 about whether to get them with a few other nordies items while NAS is still on!!!

I don't have a problem with Tara indulging in a knit jacket...just not THIS knit jacket. It's just not sophisticated enough. A knit blazer of sorts made pit of a nicer material would be fab though.

Tam, I'll post pics of the boots as soon as they are on my porch. I am also concerned about the flaring at the top, but they price matched Endless' price so I couldn't resist trying. I'm wondering if a cobbler could add a buckle in the back or some other mechanism to keep it more streamlined. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I'll see how disagreeable it is first.

You can do it either way. If you look on the page for any item, you will see a paragraph headline that says "You'll never pay more" or something along those lines and explains how if you find something for less, Nordstrom will merrily match the price, with a phone number to call.

I can't tell you if this works on international orders or not, though, since the place with the lower price (in this case Endless) does not ship overseas...to my knowledge anyway. But you would probably be using your forwarding service anyway, right?

Nordies do match prices for international customers. You need to chat with someone online who can put the order through for you. They charge the original price but then refund your CC with the difference.

Maya, were you ever able to find the exposed zip silk blouse from Halogen? I am trying to get a cream in a S but they said it is sold out company wide
