May Madness end of week 3 - YouLookFab Forum

Apologies if there is a thread already, but I couldn't find one.
I had my list and budget all written out nicely and then a flurry of returns has made it a jumbled mess lol. But, it has also gotten me back under budget *and* able to look at a 4 in 1 jacket as a gift with Bday $$.

So I had to return the Athleta shorts for a bigger size. The Gap Modern Boot pants went back. A strapless bra went back. (by the way, am I the only one who counts bras but not undies or socks in the budget??)
I have another strapless bra coming, the bigger size shorts, and may have an offer in on Express Columnists pants.

If I don't use birthday money for the 4 in 1 jacket, I could cover all the re-ordered items and be in the clear for May, with $$ left over. But isn't bday cash supposed to be fun? I like to buy what I normally wouldn't with gift money. If I do, I will be into June's budget with the Express pants. Everything else will be gift $$ or PayPal balances from sales. I can live with that!

Considering I didn't even figure in an interview outfit (jacket and slacks) into the season's budget, having $40 left for June with 2 items to get (shorts and a sweater) isn't a terrible outcome for the season.

Anyone else doing similar wardrobe math out there lol?

You are doing wardrobe math; I am doing wardrobe timekeeping - as in, if it doesn't arrive at my home during May Madness, it doesn't count! lol

I've failed miserably with a 2nd Nexx blouse on order, floral oxfords on the way, and a white draped faux leather jacket that I *must* hunt down after passing it up at yesterdays meetup. I assumed I could always order it online after May Madness but, now that it isn't online, I'm can't help but think "madness" is the operative word!

I think I'll be joining you in June I've been very organised for once and worked out my budget for next month, I'm wishing I'd not bothered, what with servicing my car, paying for RAC membership, loads of birthdays and a personal commitment to not rely on my credit card I've a grand total of £100 spending money to last the whole month, it's rather overwhelming to see it in black and white x

Oh, may is a write off. The new shoes and blouse have already been confessed and displayed, but there are two more items lurking with tags in my closet...yet to be seen by YLF eyes. I cannot even claim new job since I already had an alternate in my closet for one. So I am trying to keep my head low now, very very low.

Eh, whether or not I am in 'violation' solely depends on the Express pants. If I win them, I'm a bad girl right along with you all! If I lose them, I'm still a saint ha ha. Can't say that says much for me lol.
As long as we're all trying, and learning, I think it's still a win!

One week to go approximately?

I had a busy week that involved no shopping for myself and actually fairly little for the household (kids didn't need or ask for anything - rare!) so feeling like maybe my SYC is contagious to them (but they really don't know about it - it's not supposed to be for them, only me).
A local vintage and kids shop that I subscribe to on FB popped up with the most gorgeous kelly green vintage bag yesterday and tempted me to ask the price (reasonable) but I am holding out (and not driving to that part of town).

I am doing some personal shopping with my mom today and tomorrow so will try on some dresses and maybe need to jump on one if I find the right thing but it's sort of like Rae's jacket - if you find the perfect thing, how do you not go for it when it's a question of timing?

It's stressful for mom to shop so maybe we won't even get to me anyway ;(
I still have things at a consignment place and credit or cash to pick up there but haven't had time to get there.

Thanks for starting this thread Mo - I've been digging in the garden all day so hadn't gotten it started yet!

I'm struggling with May Madness, not going to lie. I've narrowed down that I want two of the J Jill silk blouses as they carry petite in two lovely colours and they are an excellent price point (plus the international shipping is quite reasonable! My problem is that my size in the blouses are selling out quickly and I am wondering if waiting until June is wise or not as I could miss out. Is it cheating if I press that buy button now in order to get my size?

I think Rita (modgrl) has been right all along for me - SYC doesn't work. I'm a bit of an odd size (plump petite) and when needing to add something to my wardrobe, I need to purchase when that size is available. Although I'm glad I've done this and it's taught me exactly WHAT my wardrobe holes are and has made me become very familiar and comfortable with my closet, SYB is more realistic for me.

Huh. Another wash. My black Clarks 'slingback janes' turned up... and I went and ordered the light bronze (they really look more golden to me) sandals too! Which, if they don't turn up soon, will tempt me towards the dark bronze ballet flats I was eyeing in the store just behind our apartment block!

It's been so hard to sit on my hands this month, and now June's budget is all gone, and I'm even overdrawn. Poor timing given I'm taking a trip overseas this weekend.

I still haven't bought a thing. Not in April or May. Feels kind of weird, lol. Not that I haven't done it before but i've just never thought about it before.

BTW Mo I totally agree with your comment - as long as we're all trying and learning, it's still a win!

It was not a good healthy habits or SYC for me. I went to a Silpada party and bought a necklace and a ring. I can kinda make up a plausible excuse of the ring.......I am so bloated from my meds that my rings don't fit, not even my wedding band...but my necklaces still "fit" my neck !!! LOL !

I did also get a couple of tops for my program. Those I actually did need.

I did not win the Express pants and my mom is kinda slow with getting her gift $$ together, so my jacket will likely be after May so I am totally in the clear!
The $8 paper bag dress was enough for my whole month in terms of happiness factor! Worn it twice already.

well, i have bought a few things but I am going to return the non-perfects (2 shirts and a cropped skinny jean) which is a new thing for me. i have never been much to return and that is a much more mindful decision. I also am giving a pair of duplicate jeans and another "replaced" pair to my sister. So no net gain in the pants dept for the month. I have gotten a few "project" coach bags off of ebay for cheap prices, and another leather project purse at goodwill. I am wanting to finish those up along with my cut from scratch leather bag. I have gotten a bunch of stuff for DH, I think he actually needed most of it. But it seems when I take my attention from one area (my closet) i just turn it to another (crafts and DH) so I have made a self discovery at least!
