Maxis... are they YLF

I keep seeing chats about midis, but are maxi skirts the go? I am not seeing myself wearing them to work, probably not MOTG either... What are your thoughts?

not for me! just too boho, need a long body and no hips, kinda look to me. and NOT work wear even in my super causal environment! this is weekend wear to me, with a tank top and a margherita

Not for me either! I just don't like them :(. They always seem very casual to me.
However some girls look good them, I'm not one of them.

I have one maxi dress that mainly goes with me on tropical vacations, but I also recently bought a maxi skirt at Nordstrom Rack that I've been meaning to post for comments. It seemed pretty flattering in the mirror, and my lifestyle is very casual and our summers hot (and I like a break from showing leg all the time in the summer too). I don't have youth or slim hips on my side, but I like it so we'll see how it goes over!

I have two empire waist maxi dressses and I LOVE them. I can't wait for the weather to warm up enough to wear the purple geometric one I purchased last summer. Hubby's reaction when I tried it on was, "Wow!" I used to have several maxi skirts as well, but I think most of them were purged during last year's closet overhaul. I think I kept three of the skirts. Some of the ones I owned were on the dressier side, so I wore them to work all the time.

I love maxis on other people. I used to love them when I was younger...I may try them again this summer. I agree that they are not work appropriate, in my opinion. But I thing that they can be MOTG if you are at the beach or a pool at a zoo.....I am not sure that I would wear one to a museum or in the city.

I think on me they would read "caftan" rather than maxi but I am not "opposed" to them on others in principle

They're not for me. I'm very petite, so I can't really pull off the look, and even if I could, I don't think I'd be comfortable with all that fabric flapping around my ankles. I don't hate them on other women, though -- especially tall ones. I do prefer a maxi dress to a maxi skirt, as the dress is head-to-toe colour so it's elongating. Maxi skirts have more potential to cut you in half.

I own one of both, a skirt and a dress, and love them! I wear mine casually (I have a uniform for work).

FWIW, Angie is not a fan of maxi's.

ive never felt i look good in one personally... i am more of a tea length... uum i mean midi type gal myself.

Sounds like my thoughts exactly! I wear them weekends and hot weather etc and on that, I bought I grey one but the reality is i would not wear it for work. Perhaps winter I will do boots, scarves etc for going out. So not really versatile for me anyhow...

for formal gowns yes but for casual wear many YLF'ers have "maxi poision eye" but I will make the caveat that a super tall super young and waif like girl can get away with it !
