I know Angie's stance on them, but I just have to note how I am seeing them absolutely everywhere this summer. And I love it! The white hi/low I listed on eBay has the most views of anything I've ever listed (almost 40 and counting). Makes me really wish I could find my 'one'. I suppose I could have settled with the thinness of the blue UO one, but thought holding out was more prudent. Now I'm not so sure. I feel I'm totally missing out on the trend while I wait and search for just the right one. Sigh.

I'm suddenly noticing them a lot more too! I don't know if it's just my attention, or our recent summer weather, but I agree they are everywhere. I even tried one on yesterday - it was a miss.

Where else have you been looking? just online?

I peeked into TJ Maxx and Ross (none in Ross) which are my only local shopping options besides pricey boutiques near the casinos. The search has been largely online. I've tried (and returned) 5 now.
Maybe I should take a day and scour the whole town, boutiques and all.

I saw a bunch at the Rack when I was there a couple of days ago, some regular and some hi-low. They were mostly jersey though, and I want woven without elastic on the waist. Gah.

Can you alter a maxi to "high-low"? I'd love to see you in a high-low!!!

Are you back in FL, Mo? If so, I have been told many times over that casual maxi dresses are huge news there every season. And you might be confirming that. So lots of time to wear the trend

Barely seen a casual maxi here. A few high-lows though. Lots and lots of people in short shorts and little dresses. Lots of flip flops too.

I am seeing them here in Wisconsin. Not a lot, but enough I have noticed!

Been seeing ladies of all ages in them, too. I've heard they are good MOTG skirts and almost as comfy as trousers.

I like maxis too but haven't seen anyone wearing them here. Here it is more like Seattle, short shorts and mini dresses every where.

Tons of maxis here in the SF Bay Area. More so then last year, and they're more prevalent than high-low hems. Hope you find one that works Mo!

I am still in Tahoe Angie, and maybe everyone is in 'vacation mode' and that's why all the maxi's? I don't know. But they are everywhere.
I poked into Ross and TJ Maxx after work. I found 2 possible contenders and I was surprised that both were striped. One had a hole and the other was too big. I hope to pop back into Ross later in the week to see if they restock a smaller one. If so, I'm buying If money were no object, the ALC would be mine but this other one is similar, with a bit of a blouson, elasticated waist.

I see lots of maxis here in SA in the summer, and I love them. The length really doesn't worry me for running around in and I really find them quite cool and light for summer wear. I know lots of people don't love them though. Perhaps because a maxi lends itself to a more boho look much easier and boho is a look that people tend to either love or hate?

I'm loving the maxi trend, have maybe 5 skirts and just took the plunge on a coral hued dress; I share the jersey resistance ( at least for dresses , the skirts all seem to be a thicker jersey). I bought on to this trend early ( maybe two summers ago) and apparently often!). I find them super versatile: to work w a jacket, or a nice tucked blouse all the way to a party I hosted Saturday. Taking at least one to Chicago for the upcoming weekend ( though might should rethink that since will be doing a lot of public transpo). I've recreated similar looks on my Pinterest. Maxis are HUGE here this summer. High-lows, full maxis...I'm seeing tons of them on ladies walking around this area, and in the stores.

I did a little mending this weekend and took the opportunity to put a few strategic stitches in that green and white maxi dress I bought, so I am planning on breaking it out this week. I had delayed doing that because I started looking for a comparable high-low maxi, as Angie suggested for me. But I could not find one around here that I like on me as well as the one I bought. There are some beautiful ones around, but most of them cant be worn with a normal bra (lots of spaghetti straps) or are otherwise ill-fitting or unflattering on me, or i hated the fabric. I suppose I could have my tailor make a hi-low hem on the one I bought, but I'm worried it might not work. Plus, the season is tiçking away. I could keep looking and not find something until mid August -- too late to get much usage out of it.

So I say keep looking. I'm sure yours is out there!

As far as the budget goes (assuming your finances are I order)...

You had planned to spend a lot more on your boyfriend jeans and found the less expensive Vigoss. Could you take that budgeted amount and apply it towards your maxi dress? I too have a hard time upping the budget for certain items, but it is a mental thing I am working on.

Another way I can justify buying a more expensive item is to figure out how many hours I have to work in order to pay for the item. Am I happy working 5 hours in order to pay for X? In your case, I think you would be happy to work more to buy a maxi you love that you can wear right now.

If I am way off base, just ignore me...I am still recovering from being on vacation

Maxis are extremely popular here in the desert southwest. I have several jersey maxi skirts and a dress that looks really cute on its own or with a denim jacket.

It's hard to find maxi dresses that can be worn with a regular bra and without a cami underneath. It seems popular to balance out the length by showing skin up top. Looks cute on young, less well-endowed ladies, but I don't love the look on me. So I only have found one dress that works so far. I wear my maxi skirts with tees or button-down shirts. (I just bought a chambray shirt that I think will look cute.) I like them with my denim jacket, but now that it's 118 degrees, the jacket stays home.

It's on sale right now for $34.99. I love mine ! It runs TTS to a little big, and it's super-flattering and not too long. I'll wear mine mostly with a denim jacket over it unless I'm at home, but you wouldn't have to.
Nordstrom has the same dress in royal blue, but it's full price a $79.

I actually had ordered mine from Nordstrom full price, and then saw it on sale at Macy's that same day, so I called Nordies and they matched Macy's sale price! I was so impressed!
