maxi dress help (i know, but STILL)

i know maxi dresses are discouraged on YLF for legit reasons, but i couldn't resist i purchased this one! as a small busted girl i'm always looking for dresses with modest necklines that make the most the assets i do have: nice arms, slender waist and even length shoulders/hips. my reasoning: modest neckline + figure skimming cut = possibly flattering & not too frumpy?

anyways, my card has officially been charged so there's no turning back now ;D next step: statement necklace! i'm looking for something long enough to be 'boob-length' ie ~28" since the neckline is so high...?

also, i'd love ideas on fun, trendy, flattering colors that compliment this berry red color and create a cool colorblock. i am not afraid of being bold, so please don't be shy! i've thought of cobalt blue, yellow, fuchsia, orange...white seems a tad boring and plain metallics (while i LOVE gold) seem a little too predictable...but i love both so if something good is out there, i'll always try it

i am turning 35 next month and, if things work out, this will be my bday dress to celebrate i LOVE the goddess feel of a maxi dress (modest yet feminine and alluring) and i hope to channel that energy...if not, can always convert it to a knee-length dress. frumpy problem solved LOL

I can't offer the feedback you ask for but I have to say that is a stunning dress. Much more refined with zero beachy/nightgown vibe. Happy early birthday

Oooh, that has the potential to look smashing on you Lisa! I don't think it will be too frumpy at all.

I would definitely go for a long statement necklace. Turquoise might be fun!

I can't help so much with colors (I don't really do a lot of color and definitely not more than one at a time,) but I LOVE this color red with leopard print! I've had this combo in my "to do" fashion file for ages now. I'm certain there are a few fabbers who've demonstrated this look admirably too, but the first example I had at hand was this one:

omg florencefearne, how did you know that i am an animal print JUNKIE!!! love it!!!

i can attest that animal print goes smashing with a variety of colors (not just the usual black/white/red, although those are fab classics). hope you can show us some of your animal print combos sometime!

oh god, resisting the temptation to look at animal print clothes...i already have a sheath dress, 2 tops, belt and 2 pairs of shoes looks like i got a head start on quirky old-lady-ness, hehehe...
