Matrix jacket: shorten or give away/consign?

I absolutely adore the jacket IK sent (#1 in this post):

but it is so long I'm not sure it is realistically wearable. I'll try styling it as is and get some feedback, but if it doesn't work, would you shorten it as Angie suggested or leave it intact for a tall thin model to score?

It looks o good on your upper body you have to wear - keep it & shorten it - you will look "killer"

The fit looks impeccable. That alone makes me think you should shorten and keep. I love the drama of it long but am not sure how practical it would be--I can barely keep my short trench from getting caught in car doors--of course, that could just be me ;P I'd take it to the tailor and see about cost.

I love it long but realize that it's not very practical that way, so I vote keep and shorten. Can you pin the hem up and show it to us?

I'd get a price from your tailor for the cost of shortening and then make a decision. It fits you beautifully otherwise and would work with your style.

I'd shorten it to the knee, like Angie suggested - I put my hand over the picture to get a sense, and I think it'd be fab!

However, really, the issue is if you'd wear it even if it were shorter. If no, eh, don't bother.

Absolutely, 100% shorten it and wear it, baby! To the knee sounds perfect, and I don't think it's that complex of a tailoring job. Expand your coat capsule with something fab, unique, and totally you :).

I'm with Diana... still like it long (more space-cowboy-ish duster-looking that way), but if you must shorten it to the knee, that is FAR better than letting it out of your grasp!

I say keep and shorten, although I think it's very cool long, too.
But I can understand that you'd be much more likely to actually wear it if it were shorter.

Alicat, I will fold Kona up into a flat-rate box and ship her right off!

Yesterday she was out in the yard and started screaming in that high pitched yelping that dogs make. I thought she was being stomped by a moose, so I ran out in a panic, only to find her wedged under the fence (trying to escape through a hole she'd secretly dug), upsidedown and kicking like a bug, and a flowerpot had fallen on her head. I wanted to take a picture but instead I hauled her out.

I'd shorten it a bit, but I don't think you'd have to shorten it a lot. You could always have the side pockets sewn closed - I don't know about you, but I really don't use the pockets in my trench/wool coats; when it's really chilly outside I wear gloves, and the pockets in those coats are usually too small to be very practical for warmth.
