I've never done that in my family. I think it could have worked when my daughter was young - but it never happened ( little money to spend/not enough fun clothes available ). My ex wouldn't be into it I think and same with the cat ( Keesya is very independent ).
Do you think that families that do matching clothes/outfits are more harmonious and happy together?
Have you done matching outfits in the family? With pets?

I had never thought of dressing to match Neville our hamster but then he only wears his ginger fur coat and nothing else!l do occasionally end up dressed similarly to my daughter but it’s never done deliberately.l don’t know if it makes you a more harmonious family to dress the same or not.Interesting thought.

Oh my, never ... the best I can manage is having the kids not completely clashing in family photos and even that's a stretch now that they are older ... everyone has their unique style, and I love it that way!

I agree on "everyone having their own unique style" @torontogirl - I think that's the reason I never wanted to match with my mom . Although shopping together we did end up with couple matching outfits. She would say that it doesn't matter since we live in different cities/countries.
@Cardiff girl - we used to have a hamster too and I think subconsciously picked up a bit more clothes in an orange/ginger color to match his coat .

When my 3 boys were small, I loved to dress them alike for holidays or other dress up occasions. I still love looking at pictures and seeing how cute they looked. My favorite was the matching seersucker suits for a wedding. They were 2,4, and 6. Now that they are teenagers, they all have very individual and unique styles. As long as they are dressed appropriately for the occasion, they are good to go. We have always let the cat do her own thing:)

I have always loved the idea of matching family - and pet - outfits! It appeals to my inner Sound of Music musical movie or something. Sadly everyone else in my family is vehemently opposed to this!

For the first time this year, we got matching union suits to wear around the house. DD is almost 10. Her dad was a bit of a hard sell on matching family pjs but these sold him on the idea and they’re comfy. I love it but it’s just for us at home not for public consumption.

No, I don't think families are happier if they do matching outfits. And no, we haven't done matching outfits in my family. However, I do imagine that it would look harmonious for a photo.

Congrats on winning over objections . Would you do family pictures for the fun memories? Not for posting - for private viewing of course.

It looks like a lot of fun but I've never done it. Like torontogirl, it's been a challenge just to get them to wear colors that don't clash let alone the dream of coordination.

@The Cat - you hit it on the nail. I probably transferred the harmonious look in the matching clothes pictures into happy/harmonious state of marriage. It just looks so adorable that I feel a bit of envy never accomplished that in my marriage .
I think I enjoy seeing the matching pictures with pets the most .

It won't happen in my family. When we had a dog she refused to wear anything. We would have to put on a white furry coat to match her. Not likely.

Style Fan - same thing with my black and white cat ( it's her picture in my profile ). I do love black&white prints in clothes so in a way I do try to match her . Furry coat is the thing I was wishing for last two days ago since it got suddenly unusually cold/windy in Bay Area.

I can’t match with our Siamese cat’s beautiful soft brown fur—earth tones are much better on her than on me—but I could try coordinating with her blue eyes!

My mom used to dress my sister and me in matching dresses sometimes, including for a couple old family pictures.

I think it’s a cute idea. If I had small children I would do the family attire thing.
I am currently SADLY without pets , but I think Angie and Sam bonding in the most fashionable way makes absolute perfect sense.

I have 2 sisters and we often had matching outfits when we were young, including bathing suits and gorgeous handmade Halloween costumes. But I don’t think we ever matched my mom.
Same with my girls. I recall them having a number of matching outfits but we didn’t do Mommy daughter looks. Or Dad!

One Christmas that we spent at my aunt’s home in the mountains, she had made matching sweatshirts for the entire family. It did make for fun photos!

We had matching tshirts once for a vacation and look absolutely ridiculous in photos. I think it looks nice to coordinate (not match, but harmonize?) for a portrait, but we haven't done one of those in years....

@nemosmom - I see less people shopping for a coordinated clothes for a family portrait or celebration pictures. Recently I observed/tried to help young couple shopping for clothes for the engagement photo ( it suppose to be done somewhere in the nature/or in the woods ). The young lady was all over place looking for a particular shade of blue for herself and young man was stoically soldiering on/trying all the shirts/sweaters/tops she was bringing for him.

Oh my, as mother of twin daughters I was adamantly against their matching or me matching them. I wanted them each to develop their own identity. I must say I got my wish. Now I do enjoy seeing them wear my clothes though!

At bing outfits for couples were such a big thing I the 70’s (?) that I avoid matching family or pets. I suspect that families that look matchy are stressed and unhappy. Probably one person picks everyone’s clothes. My sons did not want their clothes to look like they went together let alone be matchy with anyone else.
Because of a furry dog, I avoid fabrics that show and hold on to hair. The dog does not tolerate wearing more than her collar and a leash.

I used to get Hannah Andersson and similar matching outfits for my son and me when he was little, generally brightly colored things that were standouts on their own anyway. These days we don't go for the full-on MATCH, but we often wear coordinating styles and colors. It seems to me that he sometimes waits to see what I'm wearing before picking out his shirt. Shhh--he'd be embarrassed if that got out!

When we were little, my mom made several matching outfits for my older sister and me. By the time I was 5 and my little sister came along, she was done with that. I can think of one occasion where she sewed something for all three of us--long cotton dresses. We fit together, but did not match.

If my parents can visit, one thing I'd like to do is go to a market where we can wander around together and tasting things. Because my dad's memory is so very poor these days, I would get us all something matching. Maybe just T-shirts like people do for family reunions, maybe something a little more exciting. I hate thinking of him as a confused old man, but the truth is that anything that helps people identify us as the party he's with might be helpful.

My Westies - Bijou & Margot have gorgeous fluffy white coats and don't need any additional layers even in the Australian winter. So the only way I can match them is to wear a faux fur. I don't have a white faux fur, but my blush one, is quite a fun match - without trying to be too close to the dogs.

My husband, son and I don't dress in a matching style. Sometimes we may have colours that co-ordinate, but that is a happy coincidence rather than anything planned. DH and son have more similar styles of dress to me. It is easier for me to match the dogs!
