Masks are the new scarves?

It's a strange, strange new world! I am an "essential worker" so I've been going to work and dressing up this whole time. And although I sit in my office with my door closed most of the time, I have to wear a mask when I'm out and about. So since I have to, I've been coordinating to my outfits!

Fun with fashion no matter what the circumstances, says I! Anybody else doing the same thing?

The floral ones are from L.A. fashion designer Johnny Was. I like them a lot but was disappointed for find out, after I received them, that they're made in china.

I will have quite a little collection of masks. I ordered some early on in the pandemic days, and since they have not yet arrived, I kinda forgot and ordered more. LOL. But that's ok, it will be good to always have a fresh one since they get put in the wash after every wear.

I ordered one from a dressmaker friend, four from Threadless.com (two for hubs and two for me), and four from Johnny Was. The Johnny Was just arrived and yes, I was a little disappointed to see they were made in China too. But they are cool looking -- great prints. But I'm washing thoroughly first before wear. The Threadless ones are yet to arrive. And my sister sent me two homemade ones that a friend of hers made. So I'll have options for every outfit!

Janet, I ordered some of the Johnny Was "neutral" prints for my husband because he liked the floral ones so much!

I wash all of them before I wear them because I don't like the new-fabric smell!

I got a leopard mask in the 3 pack from Karen Kane, so I always feel sassy in that one. But I'm wearing mostly plain white, the ones that I ordered from Quality Mask Supply.

Here in Bulgaria where thankfully virus numbers have been low we have been allowed to wear scarves instead of masks by the authorities all along. As I have a nice collection I have been co-ordinating my scarf to my outfit obviously Either a small scarf tied bandanna style or a long neck scarf wrapped around the whole head covering the nose and the mouth. Since 14 May we only have to wear these when entering shops, etc. I love the dotted Breton top you are wearing - so darn cute!

OMG, brilliant!! You look amazing. Trust you to amass a fantastic collection of colourful and pretty masks! And you might be right -- they may become the new scarves.

So far, I like the ones that Runcarla sent me best of my lot. I got some from a Canadian company, Encircled, and first, they arrived all black (SOB) -- there was no choice on colour -- and second, they don't stay on me. Fail.

Another, from an Etsy seller, is cute (cat print!!) but the elastics are uncomfortable and come undone.

So I'm still in the market for good options.

Yes, I've been doing the same--not working, but when I go out, I wear a mask, cowl/neck gaiter, or bandana, and I try to coordinate it to my outfit. I'm gathering a face-covering capsule.

The Johnny Was masks are REALLY nice; patterned silk front and oxford stripes back. I did wash them because the cotton sizing bothered my skin a bit. I loved them when it was chilly because they kept my face warm. They have a pocket for a filter, but I don't use it.

But the truth is that the paper ones are the most comfortable, so that is what I almost always wear at work. I hate taking it off, putting it on, back and forth, and the paper ones let me leave it in place all day.

I really like your polka dot mask, MsMary!

I’ve been trying to match mask colours to eyes in order for them to act as a focus, I’ve just picked up some new fabric in dark blues and pale grey/whites. The blues are because so many folks wear blue jeans, and the pale colours are for folks who want a more ‘clinical’ look. I’ve made around 75 masks for family and friends!

If anyone is having trouble securing masks, or having trouble with fit, pm me with your snail mail address and I’ll send you a couple to trial.

I HAVE been doing the same. I generally wear a solid color mask at work (essential worker also), but when I'm not working I do try and pick a mask that goes with my outfit, like the light blue polka dot one I wore with my light blue outfit a couple of days ago when I had a day off

You’re matching masks look great. I especially like the polka dots.

I’ve been using leftover scraps of fabric, and my masks look it. However, I ordered some fabric on Etsy, of my college. I had to buy a yard, so I can make several from it, and I plan to give them out to a few relatives and friends who went there. Hopefully I don’t run out of steam before I run out of fabric!

ETA: In my neck of the woods, scarves won’t be replaced by masks, because I wear scarves for warmth in winter.
