@pil - you might try lowering the part under the eyes, and leaving the ‘beak’ length. I enlarged the pattern for a larger/men’s size, but then adjusted the pattern after the first male prototype (seen on DS#1) to have a greater ‘scoop’ under the eyes.
Using a wire to pinch in around the nose can also bring the mask down a little lower, and create more room to breath. I practiced wearing mine at home while I sewed! And learned some things about fit and comfort. You do want a snug fit under the chin and around the nose.
Now I understand all the brouhaha around ‘fit testing’ for the N95 masks!
