Mardi Gras Or Pancake Day - YouLookFab Forum

Do you have your Mardi Gras outfit ready for Tuesday? I am invited to a Pancake Day celebration in the evening. Looking forward to it and pulling things from my helter skelter closet, I have several items in green, purple, (actually orchid, but have read that orchid is a good sub for purple in this case, and I do have some real purple in a print) and gold.

Of course I went into a tailspin, and have been shopping on-line, mainly Nordies, and have been to local Talbots and Steinmart B&M stores.

I honestly did not see anything I liked better than what I have here, and I do not need anything new. My New Years resolution was to stop this random shopping madness I live with. Disclaimer--my only grandaughter will be graduating from med school in May, and has recently become engaged. I am looking for clothes for parties and or celebrations connected with her.

Back on subject. Some of you may remember that I consider Fedora's my signature, but had nothing in Mardi Gras colors. Lo, and behold---you know how advertisements pop up when you are searching for something elsewhere, A MardiGras Sequin Fedora at Home Depot popped up, so am planning to go to Home Depot tomorrow and check it out. They have a lot of other Mardi Gras things also, masks, jewelry, etc.

So, my second question, have any of you been to Home Depot and seen this hat?

Sounds hectic and fun and congratulations on your granddaughter's medical school graduation and engagement. Can't say I have seen a hat at a Home Depot ever, so please share your find!

Many Australians celebrate Pancake Tuesday, but I have not heard of people dressing up an any colours to celebrate it here. St Patrick's Day is always a sea of Green in March with our Irish communities, that seems to be much more of a festival celebrated here than Pancake Tuesday.

I have no clue what Pancake Day is, here we celebrate Fasching on Tuesday. My DD needs to bring costume to school, and parents are invited to watch the parade and encouraged to dress up too, but I will skip that. My DD and me went shopping yesterday for her costume and had a really hard time deciding what to get her. At the end she decided that she will be soldier, she will wear her camo pants and camo jacket and her black combat boots, and only thing that we got yesterday was a camo army hat.

ok. i'll admit that buying a hat at the home depot just sounds wrong to me...its like buying a rake at nordstroms....
and i have to admit....i knew what Mardi Gras was, but i had to google Pancake Tuesday....The start of the Easter Season in Western PA is the start of Fish Fry Fridays, every Fire Dept, Catholic school and church have them, and they are incredible fundraisers....

I was there yesterday and didn't see it-but Home Depot is huge, so doesn't mean it wasn't there. I tend to spend the most time in the lighting section
@kkards they call it Shrove Tuesday, you've probably seen that, or seen pancake supper signs around.

What!? We're supposed to dress up for these events? I was invited to a Mardi Gras Party. I had anticipated wearing blue jeans and a stripped turtleneck. Oh. Oh. Must go and check on a few things .....

I must say, it’s been awhile since I did up for Mardi Gras. Here too, St Patrick’s is the thing. But I could go for pancakes! Maybe I could rally and make King Cake.

Bridgie, thanks for the reminder about pancakes--I love little ways of marking special days at home, but rarely think of them until it's too late. Have fun at the party! I'm sure you'll look splendid and hope you have fun and post a picture later. And how great to watch your granddaughter flourish!

Anchie, Pancake Tuesday is one way of celebrating Faching/ Carnival /Mardi Gras.

I figured that must be something similar. Tradition here is to eat Krapfen (donats) on that day, not pancakes.

My grandmother called it Shrove Tuesday. I don’t remember pancakes, though. We went to one of the minor Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans years ago. We were at a company party which included a crawfish boil, I think.

Yes, I for years would wear my Mardi Gras beads to work. But, changed roles, and now the beads seem a bit too much, and I came across a silk paisley scarf in perfect colors, so will wear that with a sort of purple cashmere sweater.
For Tuesday evening, our church does “Fastnacht “ as a pancake supper gathering.
I used to sometimes order a King cake mailed in from Gambino’s for office/ hospital staff, but haven’t done that for a long time.
