Marble print blazer - two sizes

The size small of the marble print blazer arrived. Pics 1-2 are the small; pics 3-4 are the medium.

The small fits more like a traditional blazer cut on me. The only part that bugs me is that the sleeves are too short. Otherwise it feels like a normal blazer.

The medium definitely has the more boyfriend look that’s currently popular. My hope is to wear this for years though, not satisfy a trend itch. I do prefer the overall length of the medium. But I do wonder, does that boyfriend vibe look like it will be terribly dated quickly? I suppose I could have it tailored in the future if I really feel a change is needed.

Thoughts or opinions?

LJP, if you pop in, I forgot to answer your question about these shoes! They are Dolce Vita mules— a rare pair of mules that don’t fly off my feet!

I agree that the Medium is trendy and the Small is classic. Now it is up to you - no help I know At this point in my life I am leaning towards more classic than trendy when it comes to classic items like blazers IYKWIM. Love those mules btw.

I like the fit in #1-2 much better than #3-4, and the sleeves don’t look to short to me. (I’ve had sleeves let down by a tailor, if it really bothers you.) It’s a very handsome blazer with a wonderful print.

Star, I know what you mean. I’ve just been wearing the small for a few minutes while I put some folded laundry away, and the too-short sleeves really are annoying — I think that may be the deal breaker. Another benefit to the medium would be more ability to layer underneath. Hmmm.

I think I prefer the small. From what I understand having read about this - the “ extra” in the relaxed boyfriend fit isn’t supposed to come from an extended shoulder , necessarily . The larger size seems slightly out of proportion. Those mules - LOVE .

Yes if they already annoying it is a NO. And I fully understand the need to layer underneath. I think the answer is already clear

Janet it depends on how you are going to wear them. The small is good, I actually like either long or bracelet sleeves. But it is more classic. What I love about a good boyfriend blazer is you can button it over leather or other leggings as a blazer dress or wear it open. I find them super versatile. I do like both sizes on you. In answer to trendy, it depends if you follow trends. I wear boyfriend blazers as a silhouette, it doesn't matter what is in I have cropped, fitted, boyfriend, long - to me they are trendless because I don't care. But not everyone feels that way so you must follow your own heart on this!!

I prefer the larger size. The M is the look, to my eye. So #3 and #4. I also prefer the longer length of the larger size. Go for what feels right too!

Thanks for the input so far. Lots to consider. After a little wear, I realized sleeves on the small are a little on the narrow side as well as a bit short. I haven’t tried this on over long sleeved tops or a sweater yet, but that may present a problem for the small size.

Gryffin, thinking of it as just another silhouette — like boyfriend jeans — would be a good approach. I think the vibe of an oversized blazer can work for my desired aesthetic. I have a small handful of fitted blazers already. This is a different vibe, and I like the inherent casual-ness of the looser fit. I don’t wear leggings though, and there’s not a lot of length to this blazer, so this won’t function as any kind of dress for me — I love the idea but will leave that to others who have good-looking legs.

Angie, thanks for weighing in! Seems a lot of opinions were favoring the smaller size and more traditional fit. I need to pay attention to how it *feels* too!

If you're going to have a boyfriend/oversize blazer, this is the one.
The smaller version is "just" a blazer and not as much (quiet because of the subtle pattern) fun.

I prefer the medium. It has an oversize look. I don't know if the boyfriend trend will last, but it does look good on you.

I lean to the larger size - mostly because I think it is different to what you already have. It is not extremely oversized so I don't think it will ever look dated. I currently have one fitted blazer which is not trendy but I think it is classic and I love it.

You do need to listen to your heart though - they both work.

At this point in my life, I prefer to add a trendy piece once in a while to keep it fresh. Even without altering the shoulders, you can take the shoulder pads out to soften a line.

I like the medium size. I don't think it's too trendy in that it will date itself. Think of it this way: when you wear a blazer - now or in the future - do you WANT a classic blazer look? I think the touch of *something something* that the larger size gives is more your vibe. Elevated classic.

I think the "boyfriend" look is a classic now, not a trend. We girls have been borrowing from the guys since at least the 50's if not before.... in WWII era when women stepped up to the plate for our soldiers. You wear it well!

Both look great, I think it is all in which feels the best to wear. The medium does not make you look larger - something that often bothers me with oversized items - it looks intentional and is very flattering.

Anne has a good observation. You have a wonderful - and memorable - collection of jackets and toppers and nobody thinks of you as wanting a classic blazer look. If I may overstep here - it wars with the rest of your taste.

Definitely prefer the medium on you. That is the look the jacket is supposed to have imho. Boyfriend blazers have been going strong for a long time it seems, maybe they are a modern classic?

Thanks for all the additional input! I’m glad I tried the small, but I think I my heart is going with the boyfriend vibe for this jacket. Wear it open, graphic tee, scrunch the sleeves, jeans and boots, and go!

I looked at it in the context of my existing blazers. I have the Zadig & Voltaire for when I want a more fitted silhouette with some rock’n’roll flash. This will provide me with a different silhouette.

Late to the party, but I agree the medium is the way to go. I love this jacket for you. Given that it is such a unique print and not an overly exaggerated style, I suspect you'll be happy wearing it for a very long time!
