I would love to be the Girl-Who-Gets-Salon-Manicures, but the reality is, I'm the Girl-Who-Uses-Her-Fingernails-as-Tools-Because-I'm-Lazy. That laziness carries over, in general, to manicures...
Here is the secret of this Lazy Girl: I don't do everything at once. And if I keep my hands well-moisturized, my cuticles are usually fine.
Sometimes I work on my cuticles - soak + cuticle remover + pushing them back, file the nails, and then buff the surfaces one of those little four-sided thing from CVS or Target.
Usually I just paint them in a pale or clear color, so that chips don't show as much. I use Rubberized Bonder from Orly as a base coat, then I add an Orly polish on top, and it usually lasts 3-5 days, which is a definite improvement over the 1-2 days that other nail polishes last. I do one coat over the bonder, and then another coat a day or two later to keep the shine fresh. By about day five, the stuff has to come off, and I start over.
So in any given nail session, it takes maybe 30 minutes, 35 tops. About 2 minutes to file them back into their slightly oval shape, about 8 minutes for the bonder to dry, another 20 or so for the polish. I multi-task by checking email, doing stuff online, etc. Typing slowly and carefully with flat fingers.
Hope that helps!
And... CVS carries Orly Bonder, Topcoat, Basecoat, etc. but they seem to have discontinued stocking colors. If anyone spots Orly colors while you're out and about, please let me know!
