Mani trends (what are you doing if they are part of your grooming routine?)

I understand that some folks are team naked nails, and maybe more are now with limited access to personal services, increased hand washing, and hand sanitizer use. HOWEVER, if manicures are part of your grooming routine - what are you doing? Do you choose the same colours regularly or do you change up with every manicure? What colours are tempting you this season? What trends interest you?

I get/do a mani and change up the colour every 3 weeks. I’ve been having fun with multicoloured nails - either rainbow (every nail a different colour) or two colours, though currently I have a one colour dark pink mani. I’ve been choosing other colours with navy, and really liked a navy/brown combination. I quite enjoy the non-traditional/unusual colours like hunter green and mustard yellow.

I almost always have “done “ nails . Mostly DYI now but I go for the occasional manicure when I’m having my feet done too . I just had a fun look where I had a few dark grey nails , and some pale sheer pink nails , with a single grey dot on the pink nails . I have a bit Pinterest folder of ideas :). Navy and brown is so chic - I need to try it ! Trouble is , I’m starting to accumulate a LOT of bottles of polish again , lol. I like the look of striping too , but need to buy some nail tape for that . I almost never do traditional colours - I find them a bit too aging or staid for my day-to-day look .

My trend is that I kept getting indentations from my sheets even if I waited an hour or more after a self-mani. Decided to switch to Zoya’s Pixie Dust polishes since they have a textured finish so I bought a bunch of different colors. So far so good.

I try to keep nails trimmed and clean but seldom use polish, and then never weird colors that remind of the dead, like blues, greens or black.

I do not want anything that will draw attention to my hands.

I almost always have red nails. I feel more put together when my nails are done. I want to experiment more but I just don’t. Love the red for me.

Since starting karate I have embraced pedicures as we train in bare feet. I like a dark navy blue pedicure but am about to experiment with glossy black. I keep my fingernails short, so they are generally natural or a pale pink. I admire those who can keep their manicures immaculate, that is a skill way beyond me. Manicures generally chip after one or two days for me, so are reserved for special occasions.

I'm mostly DIY with the occasional professional Mani. I do my nails once a week, and will buff, use a clear or light neutral polish, or wear color, all depending on my mood! I tend to wear classic colours ... Berry, burgundy, or neutral (in
white, gray and navy as well as pinky beige), but sometimes will go for a wildcard at the manicurist - bright pink, or teal. Last night I removed my bright white and replaced with berry. Need some colour during dull January!

Love your white nails Helena ! That’s a colour I leave to the pros to do . Can’t wait to do a white pedi and mani again in the spring .

Joy , I don’t have “ nice” hands either , and often wonder if I’m better off leaving the nails uncoloured so as to not draw attention to the them . My index fingers are fat and straight - ugh .

My nails are longer, and my hands looking better since I started with regular mani’s two years ago. I make the effort of using rubber gloves when doing chores and have made it a habit to slather on hand lotion regularly. My hands work so hard! They deserve the TLC!

I keep my toenails done- diy at home. I started this when I was swimming at the gym regularly. I pick up the nail polishes that are better for you (formaldahyde free, etc) when I see colors that I like- usually brownish shades. I don't bother with my nails. The only time I ever had a professional manucure was for my first wedding...I may do one for my wedding again. I will do them myself for a special occasion, but it's been a long time.

At-home only for me; I don't really enjoy the salon experience, whether hair or nails. I do toes more often than fingers, but I'm trying to get in the habit of taking better care of hands/fingernails as well. I have rather small, short nails (they start close to my fingertips), so no matter what I do, they'll never quite look like a hand model's.

I currently have copper on my toenails, planning to switch to navy or olive next, as I got a little sampler of unusual colours in my stocking this year.

I diy at home at well. I've been wearing a lot of glittery nail polish around the holidays. They are super fun and festive but a huuuge pain to take off. You need serious elbow grease On the bright side, glittery polish lasts as a long time

Bijou - I like wearing glossy navy on my toes as well. And this glittery black looks excellent on toes, too if you want to give it a go.

Naked fingernails for me at the moment - I used to have gel polishes but my nails are healthier without.

I have been painting my toe nails and had one spa pedicure - red and baby pink so far this summer.

DIY here. I don’t paint my toes at all in fall or winter (unless I need open toes for a fancy event, which happens… never). I do keep my feet otherwise groomed (clipped, pumiced, lotion’d).

In summer, I wear all kinds of colors on my feet. Yellow, blues, greens, and rusty oranges or reds are my go-to.

My hands won’t keep a manicure longer than 2-3 days, no matter how I prep or seal them. So, I tend to stick to buffing. Sometimes I’ll add a light color polish . so chips aren’t as obvious.

Team Naked Nails, but I love seeing all the beautiful manicures/pedicures. I get the occasional professional manicure, and the foot nurse comes to the house once a month. The medical pedicure by the nurse is heavenly.

I do my own whenever I have time. BC19 I used to get a salon gel manicure for special occasions, but that hasn't happened since.

I vary on color but one thing I just can't seem to be satisfied without is glitter on at least one or two nails. It delights my inner 5 year old I guess. All one color looks elegant to me on other people, but for me I want the fun. It's not staying on for more than a few days anyway, so I just want to play. Like DonnaF, I'm a big fan of Zoya Pixie Dust colors.

Currently I have on black with a Zoya silver glitter and white speckles topcoat...because it snowed!! Yes, I'm a child.

I love wearing color on my nails, but I give my toes a break during the winter. As for my hands, I’m really hard on them these days — doing a lot of moving furniture and cleaning as we renovate our basement. So I’m not bothering with anything more than DIY shaping and clear polish. I like my hands (even though they show my age), and don’t mind playing them up — I like my nails to be fingertip length or slightly longer and it’s hard to keep them at that length because they grow fast. I’ll probably treat myself to a pro manicure again in February.

I do my toenails almost all the time. I wore white all summer, beige in the fall, crimson for the festive season, and now dark grey for the rest of winter.

Polish on my fingernails is a rare treat usually reserved for holidays. Now that I no longer work ER, I could probably get away with it for regular work days, but it chips so quickly and then looks unprofessional, even for my RATE self. But I have a whole Pinterest page of nail inspirations!

This December I was in the mood for forest green. When DD came for Christmas with her array of tools, she painted me some accent nails with tree silhouettes.

Earlier last year I had fun with ombré nails: once toning light pink through deep red, and once pale beige to rust. Maybe I'll try white through greys to black next.

Manicures are either self- or daughter- produced. I started to book a proper manicure once, but bailed as soon as I realized it would take an hour.

I can’t wear polish on my fingernails. They feel like they are suffocating. I’m not kidding. I loved getting pedicures. I haven’t gone since the before days. Last summer my feet looked kind of sad. But I noticed that gardening was easier. I usually wear Crocs or flipflops because it’s so hot in summer, and the polish would always get wrecked.

I have become addicted to weekly DIY manicures! Just took a break because of all the hand-washing I had to do while various family members were sick with COVID. Ha, "break." It was probably 3 days without color on my nails. It was so boring I could hardly stand it.

I definitely go with the mood with regard to polish colors! Darks, lights, I love pinks and reds and all shades of blue. I like metallics in theory but they wash me out a bit in reality. I have a set of ombre grays that are really fun, one for each nail.. I do love glitter occasionally.

Tip regarding removal of glitter: I keep an acetone remover pot from Target for glitter occasions. There's something about that industrial-strength acetone plus little car-wash-style fingers in the pot that pops that glitter right off!

I don't paint fingernails, but did just get a mani with clear polish cause my cuticles were a wreck. My toenails are back to my usual copper. I did use that black/ red shifting color once, but it also shifted blue and purple. And it was a bit of a pain to remove.
