Summer is finally here on the Black Sea. Yay! In anticipation I painted my toe nails in a light brown-ish colour to work with my preferred earthy palette for this summer. For many years I have not worn paint on my finger nails as they were very yellow-ish. So now that they are all bright and pretty I feel like paint again :). I definitely will always use a base coat going forward although I am not sure that really helps in the long run. My question is do you guys wear the same colour on your toes and finger nails, or do you wear different but co-ordinating colours? Just curious as I have never worn the same but am tempted. Maybe it is 'old fashioned', I think that was the trend in the 70s although not sure about that. Please share your preferences and/or wether you paint or not.

I do everything with my mani and pedi: same color, different colors (possibly both cool or warm, no fuchsia and orange together), sheer base coat on hands and any bright color on feet. At present I have no color on my hands and a denim blue pedi. Now I want to see your mani and pedi!

I’m sensitive to nail polish especially on my fingers so I rarely do them. My toes can handle polish a little longer than my fingers so if I do paint nails it’s usually toes but often only for a few days at a time. Alas this means no matching for me.

If I could do both on a regular basis I’d probably match because I’m a matchy matchy kind of gal.

Hmm.. no manicures or pedicures for me, I'm too lazy really to bother, feels too precious and I can't stand the look of chipped nailpolish either.

Easy for me - I don’t wear color on my fingernails. I use a clear coat when I do manicure once a week. I used to wear clear on my toes, too. For the last year or two I use nude color with metallic. I feel like using more color on toes now and want to even try red.

If I wore color on my fingernails and toenails, I would wear the same color. Honestly, can’t imagine it in different colors.

I don't usually do my fingernails because they don't last for me. I do keep my toenails polished for the summer, love to see the pretty peek of color instead of plain old nails. So no matching for me.

A brown-ish color sounds fun! Love a good earthy nail polish.

For about a year now I've done a dip on my fingernails, my nails are weak, and kinda crooked, and I can't tell you how much I love this and how fab and polished it makes me feel. I do pinks and whites and natural colors on my fingers. I have a pedi mostly year round, and just about always use OPI's Pompei Purple, a reddish pink that is my color! I take my own bottle to the salon. I do 4 or 5 yoga classes a week and love to have my toes pretty, and also summer sandals.

I get pedicures every month or so during the warmer months and get a fun color on my toes — usually a blue, teal, coral, or silver. I just got a pedi a couple of days ago and I currently have a cobalt blue polish.

I rarely do colored polish on my hands — it never seems to last long and my nails grow quickly. I’m kinda hard on my hands. I do use a strengthening clear coat on my nails every so often. But I was just thinking about getting a manicure next week, just for fun. I would probably not match my toes. I’m not big on matchy-matchy these days but I think it’s all good!

My nails are always done : I'm in a public-facing role at work with my hands in front of people and need to look polished. Plus I just like it! Toes and fingers are never matching - but chosen to work together. Black toes/nude pink fingers; red fingers, nude taupe/pink toes; dark brown toes/cafe au lait fingers; khaki green toes/teal fingers ( a fav summer holidays combo ) ; orange fingers/teal toes (another summer holiday fav) . A recent combo I wore was chrome nude fingers and black toes which I loved but I've had enough of black toes for a few months now. It's all chosen to work with what I'm wearing that week .

Thanks everyone for sharing. Before I went with naked finger nails I tended to do two colours, but lighter on the fingers. I was thinking along the lines now of brownish toes and creamy fingers, like a frappe with a frothy topping.

I'm in the minority! I keep my hands and feet well groomed, moisturized and polished, but no colour. Sometimes I wear clear nail polish, but other than that - natural looking nails suit me more. I also keep my nails short because I like the look of short nails! I also find it extremely practical for my lifestyle.

Interestingly, I have a client who is a bit of a celebrity, and on tele a lot. She speaks with her hands, and ALWAYS has red, burgundy, or brown nail polish on her fingernails. It's signature to her look, and awesome! Naked without it

I do my own nails. I have two nail colors I wear on my toenails - a strawberry pink sort of color, and a metallic orangey-pinky-gold (Tangerine Pop by Pacifica). Sometimes I layer the gold over the pink and it gives a sort of watermelon look - it looks wet.

I do love the look of painted fingernails, but it doesn't last long, and it's a time commitment for drying, so I only paint them for shows, either clear, or that metallic color.

I don't worry too much about matching, but I notice that if I have two different colors, I prefer the stronger color on the toenails.

I do my toenails but have not done them this year -- must get on it because sandals are coming up soon here!

I match sometimes and mix and match others.

I prefer reds but have been gravitating to softer colors recently. Like light pinks. Right now my nails have no polish because I had a nail infection another week or two. I will be good to go.

I had a fun manicurist (former Mouseketeer) who did my pedicures. She retired during the pandemic, and I’ve had plain toes since then. Last summer both of my big toenails had bruised and were especially unattractive, but I persevered and the purple has grown out. When I did get nail polish, I usually chose some version of pink.

I’ve never done my fingernails. I like the plain look.

During the summer season I try to get pedicures regularly and almost always bright white, which seems to work with everything on me (and bookends my hair ). I haven't had a manicure in a long time - my nails grow quickly and I like them to be short, but would get a different color probably.

I do my own nails, with occasional pedis. Typically I use nudes, pale pinks or clear. I don't like shellac and can't stand even a small chip in colour so I have given up on fingernail colour except for a rare treat. My toes I will sometimes do in a classic red or burgundy, bright white, or navy. I'm as boring with my nails as my wardrobe lol!

Angie Yes, thanks, I think this is the way to go. I will 'scratch the itch'.

Mary Beth I love the sound of your colours! High Five regarding darker colours on the toes, and lighter on the fingers, when doing both. I wonder why? Maybe seems more grounded.... I also prefer straight silhouettes in clothes, which I read somewhere that it is because of the grounding effect (instead of floaty).

Jaileen I too had purple toe nails from bruising (shoes that do not fit well in winter I suspect). Fortunately mine also grew out and now I am even more picky about the height of the toe box and it seems to be working as the bruising has not reoccurred.

High Five to those of you who do your own painting and maintenance, I do too. The salon lady actually damaged my toe nails! Using a machine meant for gel nails. I miss my excellent manicurist in SA.

When I am organized, definitely matching. Otherwise, I try not to make a fuss, because it doesn't seem to be a rule anymore.

I rarely expose my toes (Raynaud's in my feet so they're very vulnerable to frostbite!) plus the nails and toes are misshapen and ugly. That being said, I want my toes to look finished when exposed. Since my feet are a warmer color than my hands, I usually paint the toes gold: A tiny bit of contrast without drawing attention. Lately on my fingernails I have been using that Londontown Kur nail veil because it is easy, quick and doesn't show damage too quickly.

I rarely paint my nails these days, but I used to love nail polish. I would go with something bolder on my toes and a more subtle colour on my fingers. I am not a matchy-matchy person, but I do like the colours to be related.
