I'm meeting my boyfriend's family next month for his sister's wedding. Normally I love dressing up for weddings - finding the perfect dress and the perfect shoes, but this is where my problem lies. My boyfriend is only about 1 inch taller than me, and I barely own any shoes with a heel shorter than 4 inches.

He normally doesn't mind if I wear heels while we're out, but because I'll be meeting his family he's asked me to wear flats. My problem is because my feet are quite wide I never really got into the ballet pump fashion. Far too much agony, and I persisted with breaking my shoes in for 3 months to no avail.

I don't really know how to wear a formal dress with flats, so my plea is for some ideas for how to manage this look. What length dresses, or what style of shoe would be appropriate?
