I'm going to be really bummed if Madewell is ruined after Somsack Sikhounmuong goes to J Crew.

They just sent their look book. There are some great looking shoes, and also check out this green fringe cardigan.

I'm going to be pinning lots of these looks. And happily, I have a lot of similar pieces.
But ... I may purchase that ochre chunky turtleneck sweater. Hoping for a low itch factor. It's perfect and meets a desire I've had for a couple of winter seasons. And that color is divine.
Madewell has something more organic and gritty going on than JCrew. I'm really attracted to it and also nervous about what the future is for both brands.

I love the pine green of the fringe sweeter but it's not a look for me. I'd love to see it on someone else though. Maybe you?

Love love LOVE their use of denim! It's really refreshing to see the denim skirt paired with suede boots -- freshened with the Breton stripe shirt. Well done! I usually give denim skirts the poison eye.

That said, I like a couple pieces, including the dark pine green skirt and the grey joggers. otherwise, J Crew and Madewell don't suit me as a whole. I wouldn't buy anything for myself.

Yes, I also would love to see that beautiful sweater on someone here who can "carry" it.
At age 57, I'm far from MW's target demographic, and it took me a while to even work up the nerve to walk into the store. But I was eventually lured in by the sight of a perfect white shirt/tunic hybrid in the window. Over the last couple of years, I've found some terrific pieces there - more woven shirts, linen tees, simple cotton dresses.
I, too, worry that SS's departure will affect the line - just hope if that is the case that there will be a corresponding improvement at J Crew.

Madewell is the only brand that my daughter and I both really wear a lot of. The 48 year old and the 15 year old do not wear the same pieces. There is something about their clothing that combines wearable basics, a little different, and some international flavor that really appeals to me. I like the green fringe cardi (the color especially) but usually big oversized pieces and me do not mix well. Like I might look like Oscar the Grouch. I think the Nico boots shall be mine, though.
