Madewell fair isle sweater (now with semi tuck)

This sweater arrived and I popped it on with jeans and boots for a quick try-on.

TTS (this is a medium). I like the length but am not sure about the slightly oversized boxiness on me. I know it’s not the most flattering but boxy sweaters never are.

I really like the colors and pattern. I only tried it on quickly, and not with anything on underneath. There may be a little itch factor so it might need a thin layering tee. I’ll have to try it on again to evaluate further.

Thoughts? Maybe I should have tried a photo with a semi-tuck like the model photos.

I adore the colours! Feels like a piece that can bridge fall, holidays, and spring. My first thought, even before looking at the model photo, was, "That's one of those tops that's designed with a semi-tuck in mind."

Janet, I love it on you. Looks flattering to me. I don’t care for semi-tuck, I find that the side view usually shows a thick fold of fabric above jeans.
But it’s a matter of taste - are you comfortable with slightly oversized fit?

Colours are perfect for you and the sweater itself is really nice! But why do so many sweaters have this dropped shoulder ?? I'm now a little obsessed with that ever since - maybe Angie? - suggested it wasn't great on those of us with bigger chests . UGH. I think semi-tucking will mitigate a bit of that oversized look though and will pull the hemline away from where it sits on your hips- try it !

I think it looks great. I like the occasional oversized sweater & don’t think it’s unflattering at all. Great fair isle pattern.
Of course, I am used to my sweaters hitting there. I carry roundness in my lower abdomen so don’t semi-tuck.
It probably will work for you either way, but to me it looks super just how you have it.

I really like it on you.

I am worried that you might perceive it as boxy and therefore unflattering on you. You won't reach for it as often as you could.

I feel you should consider keeping it if you can make peace with the oversized look. You look great in number 3 above. Happy. Sometimes oversized sweaters are the absolute best thing in the world.

OK, this is encouraging! I like it but it’s not my typical look, so opinions are valued. I do an occasional boxy top, as long as there is either some structure or enough fluidity that I don’t feel like Spongebob.

I think the length helps me out here — I do not like boxy tops that hit right below my backside or cover the crotch point of my pants — something about the slightly angled hem and the back doesn’t look tunic-like seems to work for me.

I wondered about the dropped shoulder — combined with the print it’s not necessarily bust-minimizing, but I think the V neck helps mitigate that somewhat.

Now to evaluate comfort! Thank you!

Hah, I have this sweater. I was also unsure about the boxiness, and while I much prefer a raglan sleeve to a drop sleeve, they are hard to find. Anyway, I took the tags off and then wore it three days in a row. Right now I'm in need of cozy, comfy clothes to get me through these dark times, and this sweater fits the bill for me, at least.

I just keep coming back to this one, I’m very tempted to try it for myself. There’s also a teal that would suit you. I also want the cashmere neckerchief... I see this is petite... they have regular too

AndiB, I saw that one too. I do like it but I am more drawn to the less traditional pattern and the V neck on the Madewell. But that PC one is really cute — nice color combinations, and they remind me of a favorite sweater I had back in high school, in a good way!

I really like it on you. I feel like the semi-tuck would be tricky with the pattern, tho.

Funny, I saw the dropped shoulders (which don’t work on me) and thought “now *there* is someone who can wear them”. I don’t think it’s too boxy either, like the way you have it on better than the model.

Thanks, everyone! I did actually semi tuck it while I was trying it on, but didn’t get a picture of that — it did seem to work. Perhaps it would work even better with a slightly lower rise jean.

I bet this would look good with grey jeans. Or my soft black moto jeans.

I really like it. It's not your usual, but that's good. It will feel different, and give you that boost of "new" we sometimes need. Colours are great and V neck is great...

Love it, even the oversized fit is not too oversized - it looks like a fun and easy sweater to wear in perfect colours for you. The detail on the V-neck really draws the eye to your face and the V takes away any horizonal stripe widening effect (something I am always worried about in striped knits). With those jeans, your legs are a million miles long, absolutely no Sponge Bob associations at all.

About the itchiness..... I notice yak yarn turning up more frequently. Have you tried other items that have it? That fiber just SOUNDS itchy to me, but I have no basis for my opinion.

I have never seen yak yarn mentioned in any knit. It sounds itchy to me!

It’s cold and rainy here today, I may need to test out this sweater with a thin layer underneath. Crossing fingers it’s not itchy.
