What material does this skirt seem to be made of, according to the description?

Silk, of course: "Tommy Hilfiger's plaid-print skirt is made of crisp silk for a luxe look this season and beyond!
Silk; lining: polyester"

I got it today, and the skirt is made of pure polyester. And not the silky, nice polyester that you get these days. It's made of *raincoat* material. Very stiff and noisy. I guess that's what they meant by "crisp".

I'm going to return it, but I'm very disappointed at being misled like this. Should I complain to Macy's?

Yep, they made a mistake. If you paid for shipping, I would also ask to be reimbursed for shipping. They said it was silk!

I recently ordered some jeans (Kut from the Kloth) from Macy's that were supposed to be the Diana style but turned out to be the Jennifer style (which have a totally different fit). They need to step up proofing their catalogs!

You should put up a review for others' benefit as well. And I suspect a bad review will get the listing changed faster.
I can't see the picture (Canada issue I think) but is it maybe supposed to resemble taffeta? They should say that as well IMHO - it's a very specific look/feel.

Hi Crazyone, Did the label on the skirt actually say "polyester'? the reason I am asking specifically on this point, is that yesterday I tried on a $250 new season's frock by my favourite boutique designer. I was surprised to be told that the fabric, which felt to me like waterproof "sprayjacket" material, was actually silk. ( It looked a lot like what I can see in the Macy's photo, i.e. the fabric had a light, stiff and cool hand and had a sort of "semi-matte" finish.)
Although I hadn't come across this type of fabric before, I have no doubt that I was told the truth, as my designer has built his reputation on sourcing unusual (and expensive) silks from Asia that are less well-known. But now that I know that a "waterproof" silk does exist, I can see how easy it would be to substitute a synthetic fabric for this type of silk. Not that this is any excuse for inaccurate advertising. If the label says the skirt is a fabric other than silk, you should definitely complain - in writing.

What does the label say? I have had silk taffeta fabric that is stiff and I would have sworn it was synthetic, but it really was silk!

Harumph. If it said silk and it's not silk, I would certainly complain.

yes, the label says that the skirt is 100% polyester--no mention of silk anywhere.

I'm aware that there are many different types of silk out there, and am familiar with crisp stiff silk, but this skirt is not made of it.

It's also too big in the smallest size that they have, so there's no doubt that I'm returning it.

Isis: that's too bad about the jeans , did you eventually get the style you wanted? Macy's is slipping!

Jules: you're right, writing an online review is a good idea.

lyrebirdgully and Ceit: you're right, silk can come in many forms. But the label says it's polyester.

Suz: yes, I think I will complain!

C1, that's actually really bad - it has legal implications, actually! They could get in trouble with the government if they've misstated it. You should call them and make sure someone is notified.
