Low scoop necks and camis

Everybody wears camis to cover cleavage in low v-necks. Does the same technique work with low scoop necks? How to make it not too contrived, particularly when the scoop neck is white?

The reason I'm asking is because my cobalt IO dress, along with the IO ruched tanks that I recently broke down and bought are so low cut. The arm holes are perfect so to have a tailor raise the neckline would also require changing the arm holes which my tailor says is $40 each. Ouch.

Can you find something with lace? I had a super deep scoop neck top from BR awhile ago and wore a white leace cami. The lace makes it look intentional to me.

BTW, I just saw in the newspaper a photo of Michelle Obama layering two scoop neck tops; she had on her Gap floral print cardi, a coral scoop neck tee, and under that a white scoop neck tee. Wish I could find the photo online!

I am currently wearing a low scoop neck tops with a V-neck cami under it in a different, darker color. As long as the color doesn't show through (which may mean that you need a white one) I think it works just the same.

No, you can raise the neck-line without touching the armhole. I've had this done a lot, you raise it at the neck, but not at the shoulder.

Carissa, I don't understand how to raise the neckline without adjusting the arm holes for these tops. Can you elaborate?

Lace is a good idea. Unfortunately I only have one ivory lace cami. I guess I will have to be on the look out for them.

I did do a little experimenting this weekend. I do have a black second base top and a white one on back order. (Tara and Angie are right when they say they are awesome.) These seem to work well although I think with the white top I might as well wear the full cami so that I get the white on white effect. I guess originally I was trying to wear tank on tank and the bottom tank shows about an inch from the front all the way up to the shoulder. Do you think this look is okay for black on white? I wasn't really liking the look for white on white. But in general my eye is adjusting to the layered look.

I think my solution is going to be to adjust the cobalt dress because I think I will enjoy it so much more if I don't have to bother with layering and leave the tops as is and layer. I'll also look out for lace camis. Part of the issue I think is that I am very particular about camis.

Hi Patience,

With a low neckline, simply pinch the fabric at the neck and blend it in so that at the shoulder, no fabric is being affected. You can blend it as subtly or sharply as wanted. Again, I've taken up lots of knit shirts (mostly maternity and nursing as that's when I wear knits more often) along the neckline without affecting the armhole. Plunging necklines just don't work for me as I'm super short waisted.

Chickies are smaller than the second base, which is a true half cami. the chickie connects to the front of the bra strap, not coming up and over the straps, and is very small in the back too. More dickie in nature than camisole.

I'm going to try these soon. Ana mentioned them awhile back. They don't have scoop necks, but this idea seems to be a perfect fit for our hot summers.
