Lovely red sweater, but...

is it time to let it go?

I have been confused about tunic length for awhile--getting mixed messages about what forms of it are still fashionable, etc.

I don't know about this sweater. Still in good condition, and I like the foldover funnel neck. I'm just not sure about the bottom.

IMO no reason to let it go. It is in good condition and you like it. Wear it with wider bottoms if you want a more modern silhouette. Good knitwear that does not pill can be difficult to find.

I’m with Star. I still have some tunics- I have reduced the number and don’t wear them all the time but it seems a shame to edit it out if it’s comfy and you still like the neck?
Slimmer pants seem to be reappearing ( I never let go of mine, but I’m talking some designer brands in our country at least) so you never know whether tunics will reappear just when you edit it out

It’s pretty and I like the waffle pattern. I’d try it out with flares, straight or wide leg jeans to update.

Have it hemmed? The bottom is awkward but the sweater is fine. An overlock machine could do it.

I like the color and neckline on you but agree that the bottom/hem seems a bit awkward. I’m not super fond of tunic lengths myself as they often create a “cut in half” proportion, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

The important thing is, how do you feel in it? You don’t sound terribly enthusiastic, so if you feel less than happy with that style, it may be worth keeping an eye out for a new piece in that color.

Star--wider bottoms is a great idea to start--I will do that and see.

Jenni NZ--I don't technically have a holding zone, but I keep my closet pretty streamlined, so there is room on the edges to keep stuff like that.

Brooklyn--thanks, I like the pattern, too. I will try that.

Olive Green--I will have to look into that--sounds expensive!

Janet--you may be right. If there's no quick fix for the bottom, it may be time to move on.

To me, the sweater’s bottom looks a bit stretched. If you look at the side view, the triangle opening between two sides is too wide. I don’t know if you iron your knitwear but it might help.

Red is on trend and you like it, so I vote KEEP!, and play with styling.

I have an older (thrifted) sweater with that kind of hem. It tucks (semi tucks) better than other sweaters because of the split hem. You could also try to belt it (like the dress over pants example in Friday’s blog post). Try scrunching the sleeves, too.

I would keep for now as both leggings and red are going to be winter trends.If you don’t wear it in the next six months then you can reassess.

Tangent…interesting comment about ironing the knit. I found a white cotton tank top crumpled up in the ironing basket (same colour as the bajillion pillowcases waiting to be ironed) and gave it a press. (Very easy to do!) It looked Instagram worthy afterwards. [i]Very[/i] interesting!

RunCarla, I don’t know, I iron all my knits with a very few exceptions. I believe Angie does, too. But then, I also iron my t-shirts and jeans

It looks like a waffle knit which I find stretch easily but as other have suggested maybe carefully ironing the hem line of this tunic to bring it back into shape and then definitely experiment with maybe a longer skirt and belt or with some wider or flared pants.

And you are not alone--I, too, had a red tunic sweater that I tried styling various ways, but finally let go, realizing that tunic sweaters don't feel ok on me (no matter what others say about the look). However, I have always loved to have at least one red sweater in my wardrobe--just no sweaters in tunic length. Lesson learned.

Could you tie the ends together to shorten it? I do that if I want to wear tunics with things other than leggings.

Dee--the funny thing is, that is the shape of the bottom. It tapers in as part of the design. But I will keep trying.

The Cat--maybe that will end up being me, too. I already have a long torso, so don't know if I need tunics.

I'm with Star and Brooklyn; I would try it with wider legged jeans or pants, or something other than what you've worn before. I had a tunic that narrowly missed the donate pile when I put it on with wide-leg pants instead of skinnies. At a minimum, I would wait till winter is over. See if you reach for it in colder weather.

Well, please do not automatically exclude all tunics. You might find that shorter tunics in thinner fabrics work well for you. At least, this is the case for me.

Carol, is the left shoulder fraying a bit? Maybe there’s a loose thread or my eyes are seeing something that isn’t there. If it’s a stray yarn that can be tucked I would keep this as it’s a great color and I like the tunic length. I agree with everyone who says it would benefit from being ironed. I would say steam blocking—which in my world means ironing by placing a damp cloth on top of the garment and ironing the wet cloth.

Firecracker--good point about the cold weather. Sometimes we don't realize how grateful we are for a sweater until then.

The Cat--yes, I've never had a "tunics" formula. I do have shorter legs, so that's something to consider.

Staysfit--hmm, I see a tiny corner you might be talking about, but I will have to check that out in person. I have never tried steam blocking.

lyn67--good idea about winter sports. I have not gone skiing in ages, but I do love cross-country skiing.
