Louise, I don't know what happened, but if your fur baby is sick - may he/she feel better soon. Its AWFUL when our pets are ill. Such a helpless feeling.

Aw thanks bj1111 and Angie. He's actually fine in himself but at his annual checkup the vet noticed he has one tooth missing and some receeding of his gum on another tooth and generally red gums she made them bleed just pulling his lip back!!. Explains the bad fishy breath he has!!!! He's going in on the 4th October to have the bad tooth pulled and a scale and polish x

Oh lordy-- that cat is going to be very unpleasant. We have a small dog that is older and the vet recently found he had had an infection in the teeth so far back in his mouth that we didn't even know they existed! He had to have them pulled, but he was grumpy and miserable for quite a while after that. Esp. since he has had surgery twice before and was mostly sugar and spice after the anesthesia wore off, but not with the teeth.

Thanks for all the kind words, elly he's grumpy anyway!! I'm hoping lack of sore gums may soften him a bit!! Hopefully he won't mind the vets too much, they have a special cat area away from dogs for giving the anaesthetic and for them to recover in afterwards so that bit shouldn't be too traumatic. Talking of cute piccies here's Marley with Tigger who's keeping nanny's lettuces warm!!! x

Me too. He has a habit of kissing (licking and nibbling my chin) not nice when he has awful breath!!!! x

Aw, Louise, don't worry about extra grumpiness. Both of my cats have had several extractions and they are always just fine afterward. They just need a little time to let the anesthesia wear off, and then it's like nothing happened. Both of mine have had to have their canines extracted (actually, one of mine has to get all THREE of her remaining canines extracted on Monday), and they still eat totally normally.

Aww, poor sweet kitty. Sending lots of behind-the-ear scratches to your baby. I hope everything goes well and he will no longer be bothered by that pesky tooth. My kitty's a bit of a stinker too, but I guess that's what happens when one eats such nasty food and doesn't brush their teeth...

Louise I just read about your vet hospital in the other thread, and it sounds like you are in such great hands, so its worth every cent. Sending you and your kitty lots of healing vibes.

When I was a vet nurse, I hated anything dental at all - it was the only type of procedure that would make me queasy - I'd rather an amputation or bowel obstruction surgery than a simple tooth extraction! I'm even getting scared now because all the kids in E's class have started losing their first teeth and I don't know if I'm going to be able to cope with seeing a wobbly tooth!

Our vets http://www.willows.uk.net/ really are great I don't think I'd trust anyone else!!

Theresa you make me laugh!! You will not love wobbly teeth especially when they are hanging on by their last thread and most kids I've come across love pushing it with their tongue so you can see it hanging on!! x

is there anything you can feed or have done to your cat to prevent this in the future? a trip to the vet must be traumatic for your baby even if it isn't a serious procedure.

Another cat of ours had the same problem many years ago so since then we've always fed them on a special feline prescription dry food specially designed to keep their teeth clean. The other 3 have teeth as perfect and clean as the day they where born! The vet thinks Marley may just be suseptable to gingivitis or had a sore mouth/ tooth which stopped him chewing the bisuits properly thus causing problems with the other teeth. Once the teeth are sorted the vet's going to give me some kitty toothpaste or mouth wash. As long as it doesn't involve me sticking my fingers in his mouth I'm happy!!!! x
