Lost my perfect jacket - ETA question about replacement

I am so upset with myself. We returned from vacation today and I just finished unpacking and realized that my beloved jeans jacket is missing. This jacket was my oldest piece of clothing, I had it at least 10 years, and it was perfect in every way - soft denim, perfectly brocken in, cropped just enough. It traveled everywhere with me. And that was my only denim jacket, I never needed any other, haven’t shopped for denim jackets since I bought that one. Should I look for similar jacket or use this opportunity to get something more current? Do you have any recommendations, any luck with denim jackets lately? Have you ever lost something that you were really upset about? My family is surprisingly supportive, DH calling every place that I have possibly left it, DS helping me to retract my steps, and DD browsing retailers for similar jacket

No advise as I don't own one, but I can certainly relate to losing an item while traveling. Your family is really impressive in how they are trying to help. I hope you either find it, or a really good replacement.

Jean jackets are a classic and I don’t think they date. But the trendy size and length may change. I would look for the fit and length that you know works for you.
I lost my beloved wide black EF crops and miss them terribly. I need to look for a new pair. I often lose sunglasses and once lost one of a favorite pair of pearl earrings. It happens most when traveling.

Oh, keep trying to track it down! Check your family's luggage and laundry too.

I know how upsetting it is! A couple of years ago I thought I lost my favorite hat -- a black cashmere floppy beret -- in NYC. But a week later, doing the laundry, it fell out of a folded black top that had been in my luggage. It just blended in with the black clothing. I had already ordered a new one after looking around online for an hour, so now I have two! One is a little longer and floppier than the other, but it's great to have a backup. I hope you find your jacket.

Oh no! Oh the pain! I feel your pain.

I am scarred for life by losing my Barney’s lavender fuzzy ear flap hat. I have mentioned it before. I owned it for three days. It was my treasure. Went to NYC for the Thanksgiving Day parade. My ears were so cold. I bought this precious hat. And somewhere between the airport and my front door it was gone!

I still think about it.

I did check all the luggage and laundry- no luck. No luck with my DH calling either. We traveled with some other family members and my last hope is that they packed it by mistake, trying to contact them, but they are still traveling and can’t check yet
I just wish I have more items like this - so perfect that I never need to upgrade them, and want to keep forever.

Much sympathy to you.It s gutting when something like this happens isn’t it,l will keep my fingers crossed that it turns up and yes,it is a wonderful thought isn’t it,a wardrobe full of pieces like this.l guess that’s the holy grail o f wardrobe building

Oh, I feel with you! I also have a jeans jacket that is absolute perfection and I have had it for many years. It ALWAYS travels with me because it is the absolute perfect topper then. I actually don't wear it much at home at all, because I have lots more choices then and I need to preserve the perfect one. I shudder at the thought of losing it!

I know the feeling - it is annoying and sad!

I would hold off a couple more weeks before adding one in case it turns up. I don’t know if I would go for something very similar or branch out.

Oh no! You have my sympathy. I hope it will turn up. I don’t have a jeans jacket like that myself, but I can imagine how I would feel if I would loose a favourite old leather jacket. What a great family you have, so nice they all try to help in different ways.

Bummer! Don’t give up hope. I lost my favorite cashmere sweater on a trip, and six months later I found it tucked in a rarely used luggage pocket. I know you checked, but keep looking! Of course the minute you replace! It will magically reappear. Crossing my fingers it will turn up soon.

Thank you all for commiserating. I am just so mad at myself that I haven’t noticed that is missing when I was packing. And that I can’t remember when I even saw it last. I wore it only one rainy day in the middle of the trip, but can’t remember if I wore it to a dinner, when I took it off and where I left it. Argh!
Problem is because it was my only such jacket and I wore it a lot, I can’t really wait for long for it to turn up, it is now real hole im my wardrobe. Especially now that nights are finally getting cooler. I am thinking maybe getting white one, in hopes that it will still miraculously show up, and in that case will not have a duplicate.

I have a slew of denim jackets, because they are my thing. I have all sorts of washes and fits. It really depends what you want.

Oh, no...I’m so sorry! Fingers crossed that it turns up. I like the idea of finding a white replacement for the time being. I’ve found that I wear my white more often than my denim one. Maybe it will be a new workhorse for you?

Oh that is a bummer! On the one hand you could search Ebay and the like for an exact replacement, but I kind of like the idea of going in a different direction with perhaps a workwear style jacket like Angie's pink one (but in denim). Good luck!

Oh no, I would be distraught to lose something that has worked so well!

I lost a beloved cream beret when out shopping last winter at the mall. It was from Anthro. I loved it because it was smaller than most berets (I have a smaller head and find most hats too big), and it was made from poly (wool was giving me pimples on my forehead; almost all berets have some wool). I called the stores where I had been, and no one had turned it in. The mall lost and found had nothing. So I'm sure someone happened upon it and was excited to have found a new hat for themselves. Every now and then I search online to see if someone is selling one, because I miss it that much.

The exact same thing happened to me! Left my beloved and well worn jean jacket in Mexico. Just picked up a replacement at Old Navy, actually, as I am leaving on another trip this weekend and it’s an essential travel piece. We’ll see if it measures up. Good luck!

The good thing about this is that there are lots of good denim jackets out there! I hope that if you can’t find the original, you get a replacement that’s even better.

I think I have to accept the fact that jacket is gone and that will not turn up. It is not with other family members either.
I have started looking for replacement. I am looking for classic denim jacket that can be thrown over just about anything. I wore mine over loungewear to take out the trash, over a dress for work and everything in between. It traveled with me and went to movies with me. First when I started the search it seemed like there will be lots of choices. But. They are all wrong. Too cropped, too long, too boxy, too distressed, wrong color, wrong hardware, wrong details. I am still torn between medium blue like my old one, or white that would be a change but I think that would work too. Even light blue would be ok, just don’t want anything too dark since for me it is spring summer topper to wear in AC or on cooler nights. Closest to what I am looking for is this white one in pictures except for this detail on the collar - what do you think about it? It definitely is not classic and I am afraid it will date easily.

ETA - old jacket in action on a hike in Italy few years ago. Funny thing, earrings in the picture where also my favorite and I lost them on that trip. Hope it is not becoming a tradition.

Why can’t you have a white one and a blue one? I actually have three - white, blue and pale pink. My blue one was thrifted. I probably paid $5 for it.

I did the same thing at the Miami airport a few years back. It was gone by the time I went back. A forum member here was nice enough to send me one she no longer used!

If you aren't in love with the detail on the collar, I would pass and look for something more traditional. I know that something like that would probably bug me over time if it weren't 100% my style.

Oh no! This is really too bad. I can commiserate- I’ve lost a favorite earring, and once, got distracted while packing, and managed to leave behind a favorite bra and two sweaters.

I’d keep looking for a jacket, if you’re not sure about the collar detail on this one. Perhaps with cooler temperatures approaching, there will be a few more options at retail. And, agreeing with everyone who has suggested you could use white and blue.

If that ruffle on the collar is a stitched-on addition, you could just cut it off real close or have a tailor remove it. Or keep looking, there are SO many variations on jean jackets available.

I do understand your loss - I dropped one of my daily wear stud earrings IN MY OWN BATHROOM and have searched every day on my hands and knees for it.... where could it hide?????? I heard it hit the tile, then it just vanished apparently. To wherever your denim jacket is?
