Los Angeles Meet-Up: Finalizing the details

The other thread got to be too long, so let's get our plans worked out here.

Friday:
Claire will arrive 4-ish, I arrive 5-ish, and Aida arrives 7:30-ish. Possibly Marley and Tarzy can join us for a late dinner. I would guess that 8:30 p.m. would be a safe bet to eat. Marley will not know until Monday if she can join us.

Saturday:
Brunch picnic and photo taking/posing tips (Aida and Marley hopefully will lead this discussion?) : P
Shopping at Southcoast Plaza mall
Gab fest after shops boot us out.

Sunday:
9:30 a.m. Hunting Flea Market with Rae. (Should we bring gloves?)
Lunch with Una and MaryK. (Still need to decide on place.)
Shopping at The Lab (First stop Buffalo Exchange for Khris.)

Monday:
Weary out-of-towners head home with stuffed suitcases. Eeek! Can't decide what size luggage to bring! : P

Sounds good to me! Ooh, photo taking tips; I must take my little camera along. Did we decide to picnic at the beach or at the park?

I don't wear gloves to the flea market, because I need to feel fabrics. Some women do wear gloves, though, so you will not look out of place if you bring some. I just keep a giant bottle of hand sanitizer and a pack of baby wipes in my car.

I would love to cram in some shopping time with you all on Sunday, but I don't know how that could work. I can also take a cab back to Disney if need be so Mary doesn't have to be my personal limo! Just let me know about what time you all think you'll be done with the flea market and ready for lunch! I have Mary's phone nuumber so I'll be touching base with her on Saturday to arrange meeting up.

Hm, we want that, too, Una! Maybe if we eat at the Lab (where the Buffalo Exchange is located)? Or in that area?

I don't know everyone's food tastes, but the Lab has the Gypsy Den cafe.

There should also be a lot of food options at South Coast Plaza, which is pretty much right there, too.

A few questions:

Picnic location:

1)Rae recommended Ted Craig Regional Park (3300 State College Blvd
Fullerton, CA 92832).

2) Marley recommended a beach picnic.

3) Vicki recommended "the park on Cliff Drive (2501 Cliff Drive) and it is a tiny little park with a spectacular Pacific Ocean view. The Cliff Drive Park is very small, but has the view you’d like and free parking (all good). There’s also a great sandwich place, C’est Si Bon, which makes the best sandwiches and chocolate croissants and cappuccinos and lattes in the world. We could grab sandwiches there and then go sit at the park. That would be an easy deal."

If we choose Vicki's idea, then we could all meet at C'est Si Bon and then follow Vicki to the park.

I realize that it's far south for most of you, so I'm open to any suggestions that might be central to everyone. I do like the idea of a little deli/bakery nearby so that we can all just grab and go.

Una, did you already negotiate how much time on Sunday you will have? I want to make sure we work around your limited free time. What time will you be free for lunch? We can work the flea market around that.

I think Khris mentioned that she wasn't going to stay long after lunch. I know she wanted to look in Buffalo Exchange. So if her timing and yours coincides, she mentioned before that Anaheim is on her way home.

Also, MaryK will be sleep deprived since she'll be back from her cruise in the early a.m. on Sunday. So she'll probably be ready to head back when you are.

That's what I figured with Mary - I can't believe she's getting in the night before and still up for a meet-up! I'm flexible as long as it's around lunchtime, and once I'm out, how much control do I really have over when I get back? At least that's going to be my line of defense to my husband.

I'm just along for the ride, this all sounds fun to me An artist fried of mine recommended one of the Art Museums, I forget which but I could ask if we wanted to know.

Rae- that restaurant looks good to me- and convenient!

AJ- there is also an open courtyard/sculpture garden right across the street from South Coast Plaza where you could picnic.

This is actually where my husband and I married, and it's a little gem tucked between restaurants and office buildings.

Una- I am leaving after Buffalo Exchange and I will have to pass Anaheim on my way back, so I can also give you a ride back to the hotel.

Ooh, I am game for Vicki's idea or Khris's sculpture garden - the sculpture garden sounds very convenient. Yelp lists a bunch of sandwich places in the area where we could pick stuff up:

Khris are you sure we can picnic at the sculpture garden? I saw pictures and it doesn't look like a place where they want you to have food.

Was that you that gave the review in Yelp about having a wedding there? That review mentions that it's usually a wind tunnel, so I'm just thinking about us eating and keeping stuff from flying off. Anyways, more insight from you is needed. : )

I vote for the little park overlooking the Pacific. I've been there - its beautiful, and to be honest with you all - even though I like to shop, I'd like to spend time with you all away from the shopping environment as well! And, we could get some great photos! Aida can teach us about photography and posing - not me! I know nothing about that! I just point and click and cross my fingers that the picture turns out OK!

Also, on Sunday, the Gypsy Den is a perfect place to eat. WONderful food, great atmosphere and in the same "mall" as Buffalo Exchange and Urban Outfitters.

Question for Rae: What is the best way to dress for flea market shopping????

AJ- that isn't my review, but it's perfectly fine to eat there. The employees from the office buildings eat there all the time, and they have benches around the perimeter. We had our reception there as well as the wedding- so lots of food. I don't remember it ever being particularly windy the times I was there, but it's not a sit on the ground kind of place if that is what you're looking for.

Marley, I suggest a close fitting top, in case you want to try anything on or hold anything up to check for fit. A bag with crossbody capability - or anything that leaves your hands free - will also make life much easier. Comfy shoes, of course. The clothing vendors are all shaded but, if you are sensitive to the sun, you may want a hat, as it is supposed to be warm over the weekend.

Khris -Will you be joining us on Saturday? Yes, I was looking for a true picnic spot. Sitting on the grass where I live can be literally painful because of fire ants. Plus, I thought a mini seminar on photo taking and posing would be fun and give us a chance to practice. I think we would feel more self-conscious trying that at the sculpture garden.

So I think Rae will be the only northener joining us on Saturday, right? Rae, If you don't mind making the trip to C'est Si Bon then I would like to picnic there. Should we meet there at 9 am? Also can you LA ladies bring blankets to sit on? Ha, can you tell I'm a mom the way I delegate? : P

I don't mind; If I remember correctly, I think the map showed it right off the 405. I'm going to see if there might be someone down there who will let me stay overnight, too, so that will hopefully make the drive even less of an issue.

I'm with Marley that the Gypsy Den is a great place for lunch on Sunday, because it's right in the middle of everything. Glad you know what park I'm talking about, Marley. I think only the locals know about it (or those getting married!) and even though there aren't tables, there's the big round sitting area. It's up to the group on the picnic location. I'm easy and recommended this place due to the amazing view and the proximity of C'est Si Bon, down the hill. Keep me posted on things. AJ, you have my mobile# and email.

@Jonesy: I wish you could be part of the group this weekend and would love to meet you. Next time!

@AJ: For the swap meet, would you like me to pick you up on Sunday at 8:45 a.m.? I have an SUV and can take three people. That will give us time to get there, park and find Rae. Then, do you want to go back to the hotel to get your car and we can take two cars, if needed, to have lunch in Anaheim with Una? Have you decided on a restaurant yet? Both of your links looked fine.

Re: Brunch picnic on Saturday, what time do you want to meet? 9 a.m. might be a bit early. As a bit of directional help, Campus Drive is the same street that intersects at the O.C. Airport. If you literally take Campus Drive till it dead ends toward the ocean (it becomes Irvine Ave. in N.B.) and then turn right on Cliff Drive, the park will be about about a 1,000 ft. on your left. If you go to C'est Si Bon first, it is at the corner of Coast Hwy. and Riverside Drive. Time-wise, it would be about 15 minutes from the O.C. airport to the park (taking Campus Dr.). Add on another 10-15 minutes to get to SCP.

@Rae: Even though I live in Newport Beach, I wasn't sure what the best parking area would be for the swap meet. I just got off the phone with my Huntington Beach friend and she said to take Beach Blvd. off the 405, make a right at Edinger and the GWC swap meet will be on the right at Edinger and Golden West. She told me to park across the street from the swap meet at a toy story (Toy City or Toys-R-Us...she wasn't sure of the name). Hope that helps. Thanks for your contact info. Got it.

OK so question about the swap meet. Will we be able to change into a swap meet appropriate outfit, and then back to something else afterwards? I don't know the areas you're all discussing at all, so please tell me if our time table/location isn't accommodating.

Do you really need a different outfit for shopping at the flea market than you will for lunch and shopping at other stores Aida? I guess you could change in the bathroom at lunch.

Well I was thinking of wearing a boxy top, shorts, and boots that day... none of which seem conducive to swap shopping Nothing set in stone of course, I was just curious.
