Loot: Round II (plus shorts frustration)

Today I got 2 more pairs of shoes.

I think I'm sending both back. The Blowfish ones (black) are not comfortable and the Kelsi Dagger ones (red) just seem kind of garish and loud. I love the color but combined with the thick strap and gold studs it just seems like it might be kind of tacky? I think I'd rather have a simpler flat, although they are quite comfy.

I'm also including pictures I took of shorts shopping today. Every single pair had the same issue of being huge at the waist, tight at the thigh. Sizing up allowed a better fit at the thigh, but even more of a baggy waist. The ones I liked most were from J Crew but I didn't want to spend $79 and then have to get the waist altered. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to get the waist taken in, but they better be perfect in every other way.

I'm wondering if any of these fit well enough to justify tailoring. I took pictures from the side to show the degree of waist gaping as well as how tight they are. Sorry, this is probably more of my midriff than you ever wanted to see.

*ducking* I kinda like the tacky red shoes. I think the shorts in #5 are closest to what you want get, they seem the loosest in the thigh.

Do you have this same fit problem with jeans? If not, it might be time to buy a pair to cut into shorts.

I love the red shoes!! I have given up trying on Blowfish shoes, they are always so cute but never seem to be comfy enough for my (fussy) feet. Now what brands of shorts have you tried so far? We need to keep a running list. There has to be the perfect pair out there somewhere.

I actually do find Blowfish shoes comfy normally, but I never seem to have luck with pointy toes. Must learn my lesson.

The brands I have tried so far are Lucky, Gap, Urban Outfitters, and J Crew. I also tried Express but the styles were awful.

I'm going to try Forever 21 tomorrow.

The jeans I wear are mostly skinny so they are supposed to be snug at the thigh. Kind of a different standard.

Wow, this must be frustrating. How about Levis, True Religion, Kut from the Kloth, Aeropostale, Eddie Bauer, 7 for all Mankind, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Joe's Jeans, Hot Topic, Macy's, Nordstrom, Asos, Mango, Loft, Zumiez?

I couldn't find anything on Nordies or at Loft.

Anything premium is too expensive, so that cuts out True Religion, 7FAM, and Joe's.

Tomorrow I'm trying Forever 21 and H&M. Maybe Old Navy, time permitting.

Given how hard I apparently am to fit, I'd rather not buy online at this point. I need to try things out in person.

Reconsidering those red shoes...

Hmm, I saw True Religion shorts on sale at Nordstrom website for under $100 today. But Old Navy is where I'd look first. I had the same idea as Girl X with just cutting off jeans. Maybe thrift some straight leg/bootcuts and whack on 'em!

I really empathize with your shorts dilemma! What I do is get my normal jeans style (Lucky Maggie or Dream, two fits that allow for some booty protrusion) in a size or two bigger than usual (usually off Ebay, sometimes luck out thrifting) to cut off. I've also had luck with Forever 21 and Free People... for some reason lower rises are even more important for preventing my waist gaps than when I get regular jeans. Who knows why...

Maya, given your love of high waist jeans and your tiny midriff, I would suggest you thrift a pair of 80s jeans and chop them off. They were all high and small waists with baggier legs... I think it could work. In fact, if you don't want to do it, tell me your waist size and I will happily thrift you a pair to chop.

I've had good luck at F21 with shorts-- I recently bought 2 pairs, with the more expensive one topping out at a whopping $14.50 (CAN). I also have the same issue you do with waist gapping, and I think F21 has so many shorts that hopefully you'll be able to find something like I did!

If you can stand it, I'd say go a little bit shorter-- I think that'll make your legs look amazing!

I rather like the red shoes too 0:) Those faded shorts look pretty cute, too bad they're not just a bit baggier. Hope you have better luck tomorrow! Also love your skirt in #1/2 ^^

I think the red shoes are adorable! Not tacky at all..sorry about jean frustration. I can relate. Even if you cut off a pair of regular jeans it might be hard to find a pair that was relaxed enough at the top of the thigh. Good luck! Hopefully F21 hold something in store...Free People might be promising, too, as someone suggested...

I like those shoes, but if you don't feel confortable with it.. send them back!
Those shorts should be loose in the waist too, so, I guess the second pair is ok. Shorts are not suppose to be as fitted as pants.

Maya, how about cutting jeans as others have suggested, but may I add not doing it yourself but have a tailor do it? You could then get the length and cuff style you prefer.

Try MANGO for the shorts. I usually have the gaping problem with jeans, even with skinny jeans, but MANGO's usually fit pretty well. From the photographs, I think #5 is the best on you, although I like the other two more stylewise. I don't love neither of the shoes. And you have no midriff to worry about

Love the red shoes, so fun! For shorts, a few years back I had success with Old Navy, still needed a waist alteration on them but the thighs were ok. Did you try Macy's yet? Calvin Klein has some cute shorts, http://www1.macys.com/catalog/.....sn_results and there's also BKNY, they should both be under $40 for shorts.

Maya, American Eagle has high waisted denim shorts right now. You should duck in there and try a few on--time permitting.

Maya, am I being obtuse? I like the shorts. They need waist alteration obviously, but they don't look tight on the thigh. #5 is super sweet.

Oh, I guess maybe I was swinging too far in the opposite direction--that baggy meant BAGGY.

I just realized #5 won't work because they can't stay cuffed and I found them too long.

Checking out a few more stores today and will see what I can find.

Lisa, CK shorts gape a lot on me--that's why I brought the only pair I had to the swap!

I decided to keep the red shoes too but might need ideas on how to wear them.

I actually like those red shoes. This style of short confuses me because they fit when they don't fit. Personally I prefer 3/4 because those are the most fitted on the rear. No doubt I am missing the point though.

Maya, so funny -- I've been looking at both those Kelsi Dagger Neeves and the Me Too Fiannas this week.

I think the Kelsi style looks good in your picture, but in the website photos the red ones definitely did look a bit garish. It's the brass of the studs that seems overly yellow and flashy on the bright red.
