Loose Diamond

As diamond is my birthstone, I wanna buy loose diamond.... Planning to deign a pendant with that diamond...please suggest me from where to get good clarity & quality loose diamond? any other suggestion regarding diamond is appreciated?

Oh, I don't know about buying diamonds on the web? Has anyone done that before?

I love the idea of making a pendant, though!

Are you actually making the pendant, or just designing it and taking it to a jeweler to make for you? Most custom jewelers will have access to loose diamonds and stones (actually, I would think most fine jewelers would have them as well - they frequently sell rings and such with the settings and stones separately.

has a fabulous repuation. In fact, my husband works for a very large, well-known company and they use to offer us employee discounts at blue nile...a sort of endorsement. But do check Consumer reports and ratings for them. You want to get this one right. GOOD LUCK !

I will second bluenile. They are extremely reputable, have been written up by finance mags like Kiplinger, and offer fantastic customer service. DH and I have used them for some non-diamond purchases. Isabel(MA), how awesome your hubby used to get a discount!

I don't know anything about buying diamonds, but if I were looking for one I would want to make sure that it were certified Conflict Free. Here's more information:

great post, chewy. I bought some beautiful loose diamonds from a very reputable merchant in Amsterdam and he was familiar with the conflict free concept even back in 1994!

What Dusty said. A good jeweler who can design and execute fine jewelry will have access to good diamonds. I would discuss it with them.

DH bought my engagement diamond off the web in 2002 which he then had set locally. While he ended up buying from Mondera, he also looked at Blue Nile, while has an excellent reputation. Both sites are reputable and their prices were very good (compared to local jewelers) with a huge inventory. Best of all, you can take all the time you want to compare all aspects of the individual stones by looking at their GIA certificates. We were very pleased.

Blue Nile has a zero tolerance policy for conflict diamonds...so unless there is a mistake, all of their diamonds are conflict free. They go through alot to make sure that what they offer is ethical.

I ended up buying from a local dealer in NYC but I found them extremely responsive and proffesional.

Also, I'm not sure if this is allowed, I am fairly new here. Please forgive me if I commit many a faux pas... I found this website quite useful into getting some education about diamonds in general. I am not sure if you need it, but for me it was a life saver:
